      Series 1 205 GTi for sure :D

Was the last of the "raw" 205's before they went a bit soft and just a tad podgy. Would eat a Mk1 Golf for breaky and spit out the VW symbol afterwards.

Set the benchmark for a FWD "Hot Hatch" where grin factor, handling, the ability to eat up distances with ease, and a less than politically correct (see oversteer characteristics) chassis dynamic were all employed together.

Still regarded in Peugeot circles as the spiritual successor to the 206 GTi 180 as this is the closest they can now get to the original concept.

      Yes, I am 100% completely biased. :D

      IMOA,

205T16 "Client" would be right up there as well, must agree with you my good sir

      Chip :p

Hehehe... go for a ride in Darren's 205 and experience what "raw" really means!

I was suprised how well his 205 kept up though the Old Pac last time we went for a run. I guess slicks help though!

GTI Golf is the original and most stand out

what about the Golf Rallye (i've seen one in oz!) 4wd with G60 Supercharger.. it's a fairly quick car and a definate hot hatch.

                    best one?

ae86 is more of a coupe than a hatch.

I think ae82 would have to be up there. twin-cam, light, small & economical. Pretty much all the atributes of a "hot hatch".

Pretty tough to break too! Wish we'd got the 2door FX GT though....

My vote goes for the Audi S3. There a rocket and look so sexy for a hatch.

If talking the Australian market I'd agree; it was the first popular thing of interest around here.

Did the real Golf GTi ever make it here? Or was it just so overpriced that nobody cared?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

My vote is for the swift GTi, sold a heap of em, handled, stopped and went very well for the time. Practical, had the looks. And even now, 10 years on, are highly respected.
                              I got nothing

I believe a few made it officially, the rest were imports. My knowledge is sketchy tho.
