My current ride is a '69 Buick Riviera. I am abandoning that project though in favour of something modern and turbocharged (but still reasonably rare).

If I can't get the bucks I'd want to part with it (based on the large amount of work that's been done to it), I'll hang on to it and Dad and I will tidy it up slowly over time.

Is that the front wheel drive riviera?
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

        Hi MK2_1JZ,

Love your ride. My mum owned a 2-door 245 Hemi Pacer like yours when I was about 12 years old. What a car. They were a classic and bloody quick, even in standard trim.

My first performance car was a 1971 HQ GTS 2 door coupe. 308 cubic inches of Holden V8 grunt driving the rear wheels with nothing like power-steering or air-conditioning to drain power. When cruising at 100MPH ( 160kph for the yungins ) and you hit the loud pedal the bloody thing would lunge forward with such force that it would physically throw you back in the seat. Mind you, it didn't go much faster as top speed was about 130MPH, but the sensation of getting there was something else. One thing I could never understand was why people were so insistant on replacing the Rochester 680cfm carby with a Holly 650. I had my Rochester re-jetted and blew away more than one or two 350s <fx:evil grin>. I had the suspension so hard that I had to swerve to avoid paddle-pop sticks and back-up whenever I saw a speed-hump.

I bought mine in 1980 and held onto it until 2001. Not sure if that makes me an old skool petrol head or not, but I did enjoy the ride.

Having said that, my current ride would blow it away in a heartbeat. The weird thing that even though I'm on my second Silvia having owned an S14a for four years, I still can't quite come to terms with the fact that it doesn't feel as fast. Nor does it feel as though it has the same brute force as the old HQ GTS, yet it would whip it's arse any day.

Yeah, there is something special about old school brute force that can't be explained or rationalised. You have to feel it to appreciate it. The rush is different and kind of neat.

        Do I miss it ?
        Just a little.

Would I ever give up my current ride ?
        Not on your life :p

        Cheers, Brenton

Brenton thats the beauty of owning 2 completly different cars. I drive my Skyline daily enjoying modern luxuries, handling, power vvvvvvvrrpshhh... and economy - well compared to the 265! My Val is alomost finished just putting the interior back in and looking for some nice 17" simmons will top it right off. Then its time to cut laps slowly! My mate has a coupe like mine but black and geez it turns heads. I wouldn't believe it till i rode in it.

But doing the body work on the Val was easy cause the body has good thickness for the mig. Have you ever tried welding a late car???? Forget it!!

Dad has a 305 V8 small block (soon to be upgraded... as soon as my POS car is complete) Chevy Camaro LT.... Black with Dragway mags and it sits so low you can *just* fit a coke can under the chassis...
It's awaiting a respray after a vandalism attack (if I ever find you bastards........ ) and I'm afraid I think my Father's going through a mid life crisis..... He wants red NEONS and a *really* loud stereo with subs etc...
Personally I can't wait to see how it turns out..

I used to be old school all the way. Bought an EH when I was 17, spent about 15 grand on it all up. Was my baby and it got so many looks and comments from people when I took it out on the weekends.
I've just recently sold it, 6 years later. I'm driving a HJ holden that I bought about a year ago. It was originally a panelvan but is now a convertible ute. But that will be going at the latest February next year.

Old school cars do have a character about them that is unlike anything else.

Time fo me to move on to something new now though, but i'll always have a soft spot for the old beasts, and $$$ permitting will get another one as a project in the future.

My first car was a VH Commodore with a 253 V8, then I bought a rotary! Haha!

I'm going back to V8 probably though.

You don't have to drive a V8 fast to enjoy it..

                            Another VJ Charger owner here.
                            Worked 265, Torqueflite, 9inch.
Used to own a VG Pacer but had to sell it.

Good to see this board isn't all imports.

Be proud, you own a piece of aussie musclecar history.

                                Re Grey Nagari
It remained in QLD for a few years but the last time I spoke to the current owner he had moved back to Syd. That particular car is a "Fibrecar" Nagari. Has a spaceframe chassis rather than the sheet steel chassis of an original Bolwell, Also has 4 link+panhard rear and Torana front end.
