My opinion is the last of the LX Toranas and XC Falcons was the last of the old school Aussie street machine.
I definately like the look of old school cars, not so keen on how a lot of them drive though.
Used to have an HQ, 350 chev, toploader 4sp, 9" LSD. I liked the performance, particulary the sharp throttle response, & the accompanying soundtrack, but wasn't so keen on the(lack) of brakes, std disc drum setup, or the slow heavy unassisted steering, the ferocious fuel consumption, the handling was ok, although the heavy diff tended to skip sideways pretty easily over bumps, etc. etc. etc.
I would like to do something like that car again, but would spend a lot more time ironing out some of it's major deficiencies, without losing too much of it's period feel, but time, money, & facilities prevent me from doing this at the moment.

i grew up around old holdens and fords. My dad and uncle owned just about every old holden up to till they went commodore. neither of them would own a commy for quids. My uncle did own a very hot LC XU1 torana with all the options including the factory blueprinted motor. unfortunately i was too young to remeber it. it was baby blue (only 2 built in the color in aust) and the wanker that bought it wraped it around a power pole. he said if you took the spare wheel out and the power wire off the alternator it would give the GT's a big scare. My dad also owned HR X2 special complete with 186S and twin strombergs.
i have always wanted a HR/HD sedan, i dont know why cause not many people are interested in them. would go well with some late model mumbo up front.
My mates mum owns a XC GXL very nice car still has the factory soft top and had all the extras
gotta love old school they make the best cruisers.

Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Haha, know what you mean there...... the other week i was talking to a few young blokes who reckoned the Walkinshaw Commodores were a good car for and 'old school' car!!
I nearly fell over in shock!.... I still consider them pretty new and remember when they first came out, and every schoolboy was creaming his pants over it!!
