why does everyone seem to think that magna's, and more to the point, the 3.5 is not a good motor..ie :

"But bloody impressive for a family 6 pot....."

    and

"just reading the RPW feature website, this car sounds all that more impressive given they're still using the 3.5L V6, albeit custom rebuilt. how well is the driveline holding up??
    "

isnt the 3.5 just a stroked version of the 6G72 block ? which lives in everything from pajeros to the 3000GT..

and if they can build the rocketship lancer engines, why not a V6 thats plenty tough when snalis are bolted up??

its like some people cant get over how quick Volvo's can go with mild mods too..

    i just scratch my head....mmmmm

    good work anyhow 8-)
car - high maintenance, performance depends on dollars spent...(or is that women??) (TIC)

i was wondering how long it would take someone to turbo a V6 magna. after seeing the article in Zoom a few years ago where they got 500+ hp out of a V6 it just made sence considering how cheap you can pick up magna's for these days and in my opinion they are a really nice car to drive considering they are Fwd.

Well done dude thats a damn fast daily driver.

'Family 6 pot' - what, like VL Turbos, XR6T, Turboed 4.0 falcons......

Well, it something different anyway, bet it would surprise a few people! Where would we be without diversity :D
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

i didnt mean to give this impression, the mitsi 3.5L V6 is tops, far better than other certain engines. its just that this car is essentially based on the garden-variety $30K magna, which is a GOOD thing. i'm glad their not doing complete engine conversions, driveline conversions to RWD, etc etc. it then wouldnt be a magna at heart.

              Thanks for teh welcome again.

The 6G74 engine is a restroked and larger bore over the older 3.0 engines and is only a SOHC model not the DOHC but that is not to any detriment.

The engine blocks are strong as they run a four bolt one piece crank girdle system, have super strong webbing and the conrods are big beefy units easily strong enough for over 16 psi boost.

Check out the Perth Street Car Magazine as they have some photos of our block and conrods in the last edition.

I am building one of these engines now for a Rail Car for next season which a blower to produce in excess of 750hp at the flywheel and I know it will do it all too easily.

The magna is the definite sleeper car and if it wasn't for my stickers no one would even guess at what it could do the way I normally like it.

This engine in our car has been strengthened but no more than I would for any customers N/A car it really has nothing special other than some nice head porting and a decent set of turbo cams.

A lot of it has to be the greddy system - cannot get over how well it has tuned the car and how driveable the car is - you would never know it has been reprogrammed and yet retains all teh factory nice driving bits.

Anyway neough talking about that. Don't want to blow my own horn too much .
Mitsubishi Magna 3.5 V6 Twin Turbo. Currently 407hp at the wheels @ 11 psi boost PULP Fuel. Got 12's, aiming for 11's.

Mitsiman, how much would the "Naturally Aspirated RPW Vehicle Performance Package" cost for a typical 3.5L magna? how much difference would it make if the car was auto?

                thanks.

email him Steve, he doesn't generally give pricing on the internet (and fair enough).

The auto definitely limits your power options though.

KanaL: there's quite a few turbo'd second gens around actually. Check out the feature car section of www.fastmagna.com (my old site) - in particular, 'the ultimate TR' - it's a very thorough build-up
                  bah

wouldnt most tuning companies give some sort of pricing indication on their websites? not that i'm worried about that - i'll just copy & paste my above post to PM then. will be keen to have a better idea how much of a disadvantage an auto will be.

They have, just that MMC never consider these cars/engines for Aust. A 6A13 comes to mind and would do the job very well, but it was inevidable someone would turbo a 6G74...great work David.

Give it a couple more years and someone will turbo the 4.5L V8 DOHC32 - 8A80...I look forward to that .
