exactly my point as well mate!!
however since your willing to drive without insurance i reckon you should just cop the $500 bill and be done with it. dont draw too much insurance-based attention to your car!!
also be VERY careful with how you drive, if the next accident happens to be your fault who knows how much you might have to pay!!

Aftermarket steering wheels aren't necessarily illegal, most window tints aren't, and my project car's got a fully legal-in-NSW pod filter. You make a good point though, I'd be wary of putting any of that stuff on my car unless it were fully legal!
