Never having been to the nats, I cant really comment. But weren't measures put in place to try and steer the event away from being a giant piss up? Like you cant bring grog into the grounds, you have to buy it. Did this help at all?

(disclaimer: i've never been to summernats... i was hoping to get there one year, but geez Chic... i dunno now)
correct me if i'm wrong... but, anyone can get a camping pass for summernats?
this, in my opinion would be the biggest mistake a show organiser could make... it might work ok in the first few years, when you have 20 cars or so, and most of the spectators are mates of the entrants... but, once a show has over 500 cars entering each year, then that time has well and truly gone...
similarly, i love to have quite a few beers after a show, but the bar should be much better organised during the day... no take outs, or byo, which i would assume is already the case or they wouldnt have gotten a liqour license... and only entrants and buddy pass holders after hours, when the bar is closed, and you can sit round with your preferred beverage with other people who value their own cars as much as you do yours....1991 JZA70 Supra

your cars get checked out for grog on your way in (entrants that is). They don't do a very thorough job and it wouldn't be hard to get in a couple of bots of JD.
They have a similar bar setup, which is a sort of caged off area. Think of about a thousand pissed bogans in a "Hell In a Cell" setup and you get my drift...
And yes, a high % of the campers are the lunatics.I should really update my avatar...

yeah.... motorvation in WA has a bar area, and a strict no BYO policy during the day... however, entrants cars arent searched... and while during the day you'll get warned to start with, and then ejected from the event if you don't stop drinking it, after the gates are closed to the public, the licensed area is also closed, and the venue becomes BYO... now, motorvation only just cracked the 500 car mark this year, and there's certainly a risk that in future, summernats 2004 style incidents may occur, but it does seem to me that this way of doing things will go some way towards preventing major problems...
obviously a total alcohol ban is one option, but i really dont think that will a) be workable or b) be a complete solution1991 JZA70 Supra

Why do the morons NEED to get pissed though ??
Maybe they should ban alcohol before 3pm, that way anyone with a decent car can cruise around all day, then get out of there by say 4pm when the fucktards are only just finding their feet...
I never thought i'd say this but the low life element of pissed morons make me ashamed of the whole scene. A mate of mine that entered this years event left about lunchtime each day due to the number of times he had abuse hurled at his fiancee because she refused to be a cheap slut and flash her tits, and cans thrown at his car because it was a Mazda...
Apparently there were a couple of major brawls as well this year, great all round family entertainment huh ??
Great letter from edo by the way, i'd be firing that one off asap Steve...
Cheers,

i guess it's just the stereotype.... 95% of the people I know who are into modified cars/racing/etc.. when the work is over, like to sit down and have a cold beer or 2... that said, because they are the same people who build/drive/crew for some fairly expensive machinery, they also know not to f*** around anywhere near said machinery, and to respect other peoples property...
i'd probably be willing to give up those couple of cold beers if it was the only way to stop the problems, but really, alcohol is not the problem, it's an excuse that people who can't control themselves use to excuse their own actions... and those are the people who should be banned from these events.
apparently about 15,000 people have been banned from an upcoming soccer game in Europe, because they are known hooligans... now, car shows in Aus arent quite that big, but thats the sort of thing that should be done... security should be earning their pay1991 JZA70 Supra

I went 3 years in a row up to 2002, wont be going back now....
I never stayed later than 4pm on Saturday afternoon, and if I was there, I did not go down that bit that runs parallel to the racecourse. Thats where all the fuckwits are
I had the usual abuse hurled at me for driving a mazda, but a dyno sheet with 350hp+ always shut them up quick smart :D
I like the idea of only selling booze late in the afternoon, still, even if they did that I wouldnt fuking goOriginally posted by NucciPink shirts dont clash with anything.....except heterosexuality

Firstly Edo - nice one, the letter is spot on.
I have been going to the nats for longer than I can remember and have seen the event go down hill. I dont mind a drink but I am sick of the stupidy of others.
Chic put yourself in dynosteve's shoes. How would you feel if the many hours spent on creating such an awesome machine were wrecked by inbred dickheads in a matter of seconds. I am extremely disappointed in the letter written to Steve, all that needed to be said was a flat out apology with a description of what is going to be done to avoid this happening in the future. Unfortunately that wont happen and the event will continue down the same path.
Chic its time to really think about where you want this event to go.
Apologies for the negative post all, just frustrated. If you're not first your last

Can't believe I just found this thread (nice work Edo and OXY :D )
With an attitude like that, no wonder Chic's event attracts such a large number of apes. If they got rid of the alcohol, I bet they would attract more quality cars and more families.
I wouldn't go there if you paid me, and I wouldn't take my girlfriend if you gave me all the entrants cars.Originally posted by Mr JonesSneakers prompted the erection. Engine stand made me do something with it

I find that astonishing, that the event has declined from what was an already low starting point.I have been going to the nats for longer than I can remember and have seen the event go down hill.
As well as dealing with the alchohol issues, perhaps the adult events like the wet T shirt comp should be eliminated as well, a lot of the f*cktards would stay away if the really low brow content was eliminated, & seriously, what the hell do breasts have to do with a car show
, if you have a real desperate need to look at naked women, go to a strip club... If Chic was serious about it being a family friendly event he'd cut the adult content, & get the security to clamp down on all the "show us ya tit's" behaviour too.

I live in Canberra and go for about 3 or so hours each year, see the nice cars then bugger off. Chic has been kidding himself for years trying to pass the nats off as a 'Family' event. The sale of alcohol, the saturday night show and just the general knuckle-dragging attitude of the whole event makes it a joke.
The whole thing is a redneck ho down with lots of booze and some nice cars - but I still go each year because it is just up the road, no way I would travel a couple of hours to get to it that is for sure.
PS, nice car Steve - love your work
