Fatboy, Thats OK, Simon has done a heap of IP, Nations Cup, targa & GTP cars plus a few Konica cars too. Thing is Simon knows about this code...it appears Phil doesnt.
Fair enough. You think Simon is God, i think Phil is. Each to their own i suppose...
Think of the Roman & Greek approaches to gods ... you could both be right.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
Nah, its not a god thing. I just think Simon can help Cal & Phil has already said he cant.
Who tunes who's car is not altogether relevant, Im sure they can both do that. Thing is Cal doesnt want that he just wants the code unlocked...so he can wind up the boost & make it go bang all by himself
I don't think at all.
Unemployed bums aren't paid to think.

fd, in future stop trying to be so bloody helpful.
Fatboy, Id say that if Cal had been asking Simon his response may have been very similar to Phils...
Basically Im sure its a PITA to do & a workshop cant justify charging for how ever many hours it takes to do it...because you arent really doing anything...
Glad to see such interest in '5s. I've had two of them, an NA6 with intake and exhaust tweaks making a thumping 68rwkw and something a bit more serious, NA8 Turbo with all the good gear making 160rwkw.
On building a fun, cheap weekend / lap dash type car - pick up a cheap NA6, whack on some Koni's and Kings, get yourself a cheap intake and some headers and 2.25in pipe and wind the timing up to 14-16*. Some nice tyres, a good alignment and some aggresive pads and you will have a very cheap, fun and awesome handling car.... You can also forgo the aircon and powersteer ( dont need em i reckon) and save some weight there....there are plenty of other weight saving techniques once you have the car too. Its possible to get a NA6 down to around 880-900kgs if you are keen. Better acceleration, handling and braking!
On building a Turbo '5, an NA8 will make around 160rwkw at 14psi on stock internals.....it will run 12.9 on crappy tyres first outing (so far) and it will cost a stack of cash to set it up reliably....next outing will be 12.5 (revised down pipe/tyres) and you wont get there with 150kw at the engine.
To do it all again i would get a NA6 beater, perform the mods/maintenance myself (great learning experience) rev the ring out of it and sleep well at night.
Sorry, I've had computer dramas and hadn't been following the thread. Thanks Edo, I'll call Greg today.
Cheers,
Cal.
