Do you still get the free hairdryer and pair of scissors when you buy a MX5?

Because it's easier and there is some level of implied safety since a lot are offering 12 months warranty and NRMA report straight up.

Look for one that has already had a turbo conversion done or buy a cheap one and do the conversion - they go prety quick. A guy in the states built a 10second (on methanol) on a low budget and an engine from the wreckers.

You could even just go the bullet conversion but BYO engine

Did you hear about T99's mate who built a club car MX5 turbo. I think edo know's a bit about it too - I saw it a while ago when it was half finished.

You can also get thoes cheap series4/5 import RX7 convertables and then thow a 13BT in - a prety straight forward conversion. Of course the reason they never made a turbo version...

I'll keep this stock, I already have the MG as the beast :-).

IMHO you've missed the point of an MX-5.... They're a corners car... The couple that I've driven went pretty average in a straight line, but the first corner I hit I fell in love... I didn't want to give it back! They really are a phenominal car to throw through some twistites.....

Cal.... It seems we share a similiar love for great handling cars... MX5s and minis!

                      Thanks for all the help.

We came, we saw, we bought. late 1998 Series 2 MX-5, 56000Kms, Drk Green, very good condition and 12 months of warranty for $24K, which is less than the insurance agreed value. We got to take it home for the night, and was the best of a bunch of cars.

I must say it handles very well. Well beyond what I imagined, and even better than the Pug 206 GTI 180 I drove the other day. It also showed me why the MG should never be allowed on the road (4x the power and several hundred kilos less = big danger).

                        Congrats!

I've not driven a 180 but I reckon the MX5 would be a better sorted car.

                        Wish I could have one

Have you still got the 307?

I had a beautiful 1992 Limited Edition in "British Racing" green with tan leather. Traded it in on a newborn baby... Apart from straight line speed, it was brilliant in every way.

For those of you who think they're hard to shift, the day it appeared in Unique Cars, I had three guys ring, seriously interested. One flew from Canberra the next day and bought it on the spot for the exact asking price...

I would think a BRG would be easier to shift than a normal on though, since there are only 300 brought into the country.

We still have the 307, the trade dollars were shit, and the reason for trading was so we could get a newer MX-5 and then buy a bigger falcoon wagon. Since we don't need a wagon right now, and when we do I think it will be cheaper to rent one for towcar duty as required.

The 307 is a good steerer but the MX-5 is way better.

I'm also glad we didn't buy a Echo or Pulsar as 2nd car, because in based setup (and the higher ups might be better), the handling is truly abysmal.

                                Think about it another way...

How about shifting an average early 90's MX5 in flat red.

Typical paint fade, usual decade old car problems, moreso for a tatty softtop and yellowing rear window.

Now is it still easy to shift?
