We were told Red and Gold in the later models are hard to shift? I don't know, but the Dk Green is hella nice.

Does anyone know if the 98+ ones had an immobiliser standard?

    Thanks

Cal.... It seems we share a similiar love for great handling cars... MX5s and minis!
      You forgot Pugs mate. :p

After Holden copied Volvo's Saffron & released that Tiger Mica colour, it became very "1998". I imagine, especially with a Handbag Car, colours that were really popular in a very narrow time-period would be harder to shift (due to looking old or there being too many around, I suppose).
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

How about shifting an average early 90's MX5 in flat red.

Typical paint fade, usual decade old car problems, moreso for a tatty softtop and yellowing rear window.

Now is it still easy to shift?

Hell no, though the guy I bought mine off only had it on the market a couple of weeks, though he might have been lucky and me just be gullible :p But then mine did come with a hardtop and is in reasonable condition for a '92 car.

              Hardtop is good!

That's $2,000 worth of value right there.

I can't see myself having too many 'Tampax Girl' moments with my hair flowing in the wind as I punch the asthmatic 1.6 four up and down a winding country road fending off swarthy Mediterranean types in Skylines.

I think the soft-top dream is only practical if you have a fully auto Mercedes 'push button' metal unit.

Interesting that you think the 307 steers well. We've had ours for about a year now and it's been really disappointing. It's boring as batshit to drive and has quite a few niggling probs that dealers refuse to fix.

I just overheard a conversation in the office about someone buying a new MX5 as well as owning a Pug and an MG. You don't work for HP/Compaq do you? There can't be too many combinations like that in Sydney

I did 9500kms around Europe last year in a 307 SW. I felt as a whole it was quite a good car, but it certainly wasn't the drivers car a 205 Gti, Mi16 or S16 is. I found the steering to be quite vague and lacking feedback. A bit over assisted too, like say a Jag XJ6 is.

                        True,

The 307 does handle better than that, but also better than a lot of other cars I've driven as well. It also stops rather well.

biteme: Having carefully followed the progress of your car's build for the last few years... I feel I can safely speak on behalf of the entire car modifiying community when I say "Failing to road register the MG may render you impotent"

I really can't see your concern, the MG looks like the perfect practical all-rounder car. Good power for overtaking in traffic for commuting, plenty of torque for towing a 6x9 box trailer to the dump, convertible so it'd make a nice car for crusing around with the missus, nice suspension to make a good car to run through the hills and good brakes to make it safe for carrying around any offspring.
Don't worry, thats just the self-preservation instinct, in my experience you can safely ignore it.

Hehe thought it was. Small world :D

I used to work in the Rhodes office but am now in Miller St, North Sydney on the Optus account.

About 3 years you might have seen my blue 306 in the carpark there.

Theres a guy that I know there that has a titanium '03 MX5, not sure if you know him or have seen his car though.

Bite.. Just like my ole 98 Green one. When i sold mine 2 years ago it hat almost 100k kms and took everything i could throw at it. Ah the reminicing..

Anyhow, to answer a question, yes i believe the 98+ got the immobiliser. Its in the key. If you want to test it, get key cut the same as the factory key and try to start the car. Or as a cheaper alternative, simply ring mazda and ask them.

                              Cheers
