    Evo_Lee,

What makes you say that? I must admit, I don't know much about the B20B. How much power does it make stock? What car is from? is it a VTEC motor?

    GaryD,

The advatages of variable valve timing are magnified 10 times when turbocharging a motor. Think of it this way...

    Turbo = good
    Variable valve timing = good

so Turbo + Variable Valve Timing = Awesome!!

Thanks for the info as well

    Cheers,
    Matt

From my understanding (which is often flawed), one of the key reasons vvt (et al) is employed is because it offers economy AND performance (ie: good economy during 'normal' driving). So, essentially, while VVT does offer benefits, a 'real' performance equation would be Turbo + Best Possible Aftermarket Cam(s) = Awesome!!

Matt: I'm no expert on Honda engines, speaking to a number of Japanese tuners the B20B is the best kept secret as everyone thinks the popular ones are only choice. B20B - strong block, good torque range and can be stroked to 2.1L...plenty of Civic racers with this setup if you head to the track over here and a few Integras going around too. I guess also more the reason they are cheaper to pickup then a Type R engine or F20C.

I don't remember B20B having VTEC, they came out on the early CRVs and SM-X.

Not necessarily. It has always been explained to me that Honda engines repsonded well to turbo charging due to their excellent flow characteristics. If you want a top end monster then this may be what youre looking for. However in my own car (4g63T), I prefer the mid range torque which a small capacity high reving vtec style engine may struggle to produce. Different story for a dyno queen or pure race engine though, where youre always in the top section of the rev/power band.

No, some Coronas had them, but they are not Toyota engines.
They are based on the Red 6, they look like a short 186..
They are crap, just like the six they are based on.
Their only redeeming feature was strong-ish conrods, Holden 6 boys have wet dreams about Starfire rods, shows how bad the 6cyl ones were.

The 18r Toyota, crap tho it is, is light yrs ahead design wise.

                  I see, I have been mis-informed =)

So Toyota actually used Holden engines in the Corona?

Thanks for clearing that up :D

The rods are definitely their ONLY redeeming feature, they otherwise should be considered as scrap metal

Toyota only fitted them to Coronas to get the local content up, & only breifly at that.

what car is the 4G63T engine in? Is it the evo engine?

Depends if price is a factor you guys are using i guess.

SR20DET is nice and cheap.. same with RB20DET .. maybe not best 2L engine ever, but best cheapest 2L engine ever :p

One more thing that occured to me that is very important is the efficiency. The sr20det would be the kindest on fuel use. The ej20t is bloody thirsty and the 4g63 aint much better. To have a motor that is tough, powerful and efficient is all important.
