"Much respect to the SR motors! Honda motors are like swiss watches in their design and manufacture, and just as fun to work on....not."

Gotta love those lost motion devices huh secoh

emphasis on the 'lost' cause thats what happens to them everytime you take and engine apart!

    Cheers,

Obviously I meant 185kw at the flywheel. I am used to typing rwkw, my bad. And an SR20 can definately make well over 200rwkw without changing cams.

The latest 'K' series 2lt NA engine in the caterham R500 makes 187.5kW @8500 also advertised as 170lb/ft torque @ 4500..
Admittedly this is not truely a 'production' engine as it is so carefully put together, but is bought from the 'factory'.
this may be a reasonable benchmark.

          A K-series making over 50bhp is a marvel in & of itself!
          :D
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

"is a marvel in & of itself!".....have you have been saving that sentence up Forg....sounds like a Paul Keating soundbite!
Perhaps we should start the PF dictonary and quote library?

I don't think so ... K-Series is the thing in current base-model Rovers, and the pre-Toyota Elise innit? By all accounts from non-English press, they're relatively asthmatic unpowerful devices in native form.

The rocker setup on the SR actually saves a tiny bit of weight compared to a standard 2 lobe per cylinder bucket and shim setup. The extra weight in the SR is from it's long skirt design, alloy sump and hefty ripping in the block. The bottom end ends up weighing only a little bit less than an iron block but it's a shedload stronger.

Correct. My reference was to the British Leyland A-series - as found in plenty of rovers, healeys, Minis etc. My experience with these engines is that they wouldnt make 50hp with a 50hp shot of nos!

                              4G63 RWD...

Heres a strange question for yas:

How compatible are parts between 4G63 DOHC out of Evo/Vr4 and the RWD 4G63 SOHC out of the Starions and the like?

Can you swap the DOHC heads onto the SOHC block?

There was a rail that was running 7's or something bloody fast down south that was running a 4G63, I assume that motor was a SOHC?! Can anyone confirm this?
