How about this...enough clearance for your 4 wheel drive needs?

Delica Space Gear, I believe they do ride that high off the ground. This is a 3.0L petrol (6G72), the 2.8L diesel (4M40) has a small bonnet scoop.

pp, Oh, yeah, I forgot about the 4 runner...that'd be OK...but at the start of all this it was suggested I avoid the 3.0v6 & TD surf...
(Ive actually driven one of those from Melb to Darwin & back...so I should know something about them)

evo_lee, MLTD's are here but the cheapest is about $45k...or $30k too much.
That nut bus thng is just a bit too spaz looking. I mean, if I drove past it Id expect to see a whole lot of window lickers inside...

Hmm, had not heard fo issues with the 3.0V6 Toyota motor.

First fuel consumption figures = double the Charade 15.4L/100km around town with one trip down the highway to get it home. Pretty much what I expected. I did find an article suggesting that with a Unichip you can dramatically improve power *and* fuel economy on these. As mentioned, I have a call in to Chiptorque to see what they can do with the std ECU or Xede option.

Hehehe...I thought you were after the Leyland look :p

Too bad the Pajero Evolution is only 2drs, there really isn't much left that hasn't been suggested then.

On the 4 Runner, my old man's mate had one since brand new, was a 92 model I think, the 4 Runner RV6. They must have had problems because 2 years ago Toyota replaced the whole motor with a brand new V6 due to a inherent defect in the motor. Not to sure what they gave as an excuse, but he was more than happy for them to do it.

Cool - edo, buy a 4 runner, go in for the motor warranty claim and you get a new engine into the deal

And yes, I was happy with the fuel consumption given the size of the car.

I'd still be focussing on the Jackaroo myself, especially as they seem to have the front fold down armrest thingies, which was the swaying for me to Pajero

But there is one more vehicle that I don't think has been mentioned, which may be OK.

That being the 'Australian' Delivered Terranno, they are down close to 15 G now, 5 doors and come in a Turbo diesel.
