I LOVE the R32 GTR. And want to buy one. Brain says I'm a fool. A good R32 will be at least $25K. A later model R33 in VERY good cond. here in Perth is around $33K.

I've seen these things rust (R32 and R33's) and am scared.

Personally I say the likes of you and me wait and see what comes into the country at the end of the year and grab something a P plater can't afford. That way we will have less hassles importing and we can see before buying.

being a skyline nut I would buy the r33 gtr over the r32 casue it is more modern and generally they are in better condition.
I would give the 89 gtrs 's a wide berth unless I was looking to build a monstor and was budegting for major build etc.
the later r32's andthe aussies ones are good inverstments in my opintion.
remeber if you own a gtr be prepared to pay for the privalage

I agree with Meggala in part.

If you want a daily driver - The R32 is not the best choice. The R33 is (dare I say it) softer and more livable day to day - the R32 is more of a Raw car that feels better on the track, than on Sydney's second quality roads...

You'd be surprised how different a car looks after a 4-5hr Detail. I worked in the industry for ~2yrs.

True, they can cover up and make just about anything appear better than it actually is. But you cant polish a turd, and a 3month warranty is the main bennefit of the dealership IMO.
At least that way if the engine blows up after a couple of days, your not out of pocket by $6000 for a rebuild...

be carefull with these so called warrenty's. Make sure you read the fine print cause most of the time the warrenty's offered on second hand (specially second hand performance cars) doesn't cover hardly anything and you might as well wipe your ass with it.

Don't rely on a warranty. They at times can be a joke much like 7HEAVN says.

I still say sit and wait for the P platers to get there 15 YO GTR's and watch to see what happens with prices.

I agree 100%. That's what I thought the 15 year old law was for, people like us who want a project.

I'm of the opinion that I'd much prefer a 32 over a 33 just because the 32 looks horn. The 33 looks like a pansy's GTR.

Like Southo said, the 32 is a much rawer and harsher car than the 33 which has refinement. If you enjoy driving and often give the car a hard time, the 32 is for you.

If you like to drive up and down chapel street while 17yo soon-to-be-on-the-dole-swedish-people stare and drool, the 33 is for you. Its not that bad but you really do feel like you're driving a machine when you're behind the wheel of a 32. You need to understand and tame it, you just dont get the same feeling behind the wheel of a 33.

so general consesus is too stay away from the 15yo gtr's??

I've seen a couple of low km 32's go thru geoff gisbey but they seem to command top dollar - atleast 25k.

I say go with what mizone said and wait for the P platers

I cant help but feel that pulling up at the lights in my R32 GTR next to a pimply 18 year old P-plater in the same car would quickly lead me to either stab the other driver, or put my car up for sale as soon as i got home...

It seems as though that as the prices of Skylines fall, the more i see being driven by teenagers with "full-sic" mentalities...

Prolly why Skylines get more cop attention than most other makes....

Hmmm.... starting to go off the idea of a R32 GTR.....

I too was toying with the idea but after a bit of research I figured I would need atleast 25k.

                        I figured for an extra 5-7 grand I could have a 2000-2002 S15 200sx.

I dunno Maz. Most of these 15 year old cars will be off the road broken, if SwiftyGTI is correct. The 15 YO BMW's and 4WD's I've seen some dealers bring in (junkers grade 3.5 or lower) then he/she may be onto something.

So I figure we'll be cruising the streets pretty much alone ;-)

Too true. Also the early S14's look like a great deal ATM.

                            I wouldn't say "avoid all 15 year old GT-R's"

but rather, remind yourself of what sort of car you are buying, who are you buying it from and think about how it may be treated. Once you think about it from that aspect - take a real close look at the car you might be buying and look for all possible signs that it may be abused, or alternatively, look for all the signs that it may be lovingly cared for...

I'll be taking Stu's GT-R for a run this weekend and getting some good photos for him before he sells it - I can't wait..... I love driving that beast....

I can vouch for Stuarts car its very very tidy... If he still has it in a few months i'll probably buy it off him...

If you could see some of the cars around here... I can't help thinking you would definitely change your opinion. There are some very understated (read: unriced), very tough 33s around. Out of the box, though, the 32 is perfect - the 33 takes some subtle work to make them a work of art.
