FWIW I once talked with Robbie Benson, the guy that put together the Orix Audi Two Litre Touring car engines.
    Some info -
    13.8:1 compression
    8500rpm rev limit
    Cams with 0.550" lift lift
The valve springs last about two hours before needing replacement

That gave around 300hp and 190ft-lbs.
To get more than that would be rather difficult indeed!

I for one am interested in your opinions. FWIW an OEM engineer reported that the rocker arm designs were chosen for packaging/noise issues as well as a very slight frictional advantage. As you say there are considerable advantages in the setup with VVT is used.
As race engines go buckets have the advantage ATM. The mass issue you note is often counteracted via a number of methods. One the shim weight is greatly reduced and often the shim is done away with totally. Adjustment is done via lash caps on the valve stem as well as just grinding the valves. Given it is a comp engine this is acceptable for cost/performace/rebuild schedules. Piper for one do Ti bucket sets for some engines or much lightened steel ones.
Cam lobes required and available lift that can be fitted...this depends totally on the engine used. The cam lift bill notes is at the extreem end and will generate its own issues and will require that sequential CR box as it may bog down in the time lost in a coventional change box (unless a very skilled driver with a dog box) which may negate any advantages.
According to a report from Mallock and another SR tuner the valve gear has a number of issues at high rpm including life/wear/flex. This is not my information but theirs. Whether it is still relevant for you is up to you to decide.
The other builders I know of are anything but muppets. In comparison I am the great muppet 'gonzo' as far as knowledge goes. I do know of someone replicating a BTCC state of tune and who is expecting 270bhp @ approx 8000rpm using approx 13:1 CR ratio, and he really knows what he is doing and taking great care doing it (he will be running my throttle bodies too!...not that I can take any credit since he did the work).
I will be very impressed if you can get more than 230 from the sr on 11:1.
      Keep us posted.
I don't care a damn for your loyalty when you think I am right; when I really want it most is when you think I am wrong.
      Sir John Monash
