Meggalla, wait until you get a quote for the tranny before celebrating further...uncle's 6.9 SEL cost 10K almost 10 years ago.

Even with the tranny rebuild, it sounds like it is still a bargain,

            that is tidy !
unusual that it has a cloth interior... i thought all the 380's had leather. ???
I remember been taken to school in a 380SEL - the creaking of leather was almost deafening :p

Q, I got taken to school in German Luxury too, and I too remember loud creaking noises. But I think it came from the suspension and chipboard fittings of the Kombi camper the oldies used to have...

Nice buy there Meggala. Can't wait to see it with some nice rims.

It seems in pretty nice condition considering its km's.
Origonally posted by aust italian putting a turbo in it will cost you around 3-4 grand but will get it into the 14s

My Dad actually had one of these. Made it himself by cutting a hole in the roof. Would be considered criminal now, but in those days they were just cheap bangers. We lived in the US at the time and everyone would laugh at how small it was compared to the Winnebagos etc that the yanks drove round!

No, it was a '72 and was sold to some pommy backpackers in the late 80's I remember water coming up through the floor as Mum overtook a flooded hilux 4x4 in the brisbane floods of '83-84? going through chermside I think it was.

Ironically enough I found a split screen Kombi and Country Buggy on a bush scrap heap. The guy wouldn't sell them as he was "going to do them up one day" then the bushfires went through and the land manager had a scrap merchant come and take the lot away while this bloke wasn't around. So two very rare cars are gone for good.

nice W126. should only be about $1200 for a gearbox rebuild. it's not that bad (similar money to what i paid to get my W114 box redone) 10k rebuild for a 6.9 gearbox? did that involve a partial engine rebuild also? i've seen dealer rebuilt engines for $12k

that scrap heap wasn't near singleton was it secoh? the one on it's side out over the redenberry bridge?. my old boy has a country buggy and a 'thing'

wonder what the W126 380 performs like against a W116 450? it looks like an SEL, is it? i hope you dont get some superiority complex over SE drivers like some other people i know

i used to get driven to school in a 1973 Twin Cab Kombi, now that was style. (and a waste of a pobjoy full steroid 1916cc!)
