SE was the shorter wheelbase version.

2-3K for the gearbox sounds ok. Cant go past the classic AMG copy rims and a decent lowering, and limo tint is a must. Clear indicator lenses update the look.

Our neighbour next to my parents' place started with a silver 280 and kept upgrading every year until he got the big banger 560. All silver coz he didnt want his employees to know that he had upgraded.

That sounds slower and harsher than your avg. Korean car.

any way I picked the car up from the merc mechanic.
the trans was stuff got a reco one 2k with 12 months guarantee.
and got all the little things done the previous owner neglected to do lol
bill was alright considering the purchase price and I had allowed more for a worse case senario. the worse part was the dizzy cap leads and tune $700 thank god I was sitting down its drives really well now and is sooooooooo quiet and smooth its awesome. total; cost on the road for this project 9k
I'm really happy to have a merc again and I'm looking for my next projects car as this will be the family hack.
whats the project car you ask
560 sec hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm should be great now to raise the funds to find and build it
yeah I know it will be expensive but I have found a competant merc trained reasonably priced place so thats half the battle.
                cheers

the car I got my base idea from for the next project

yeah edo they can be had for a reasonable price which will allow some additional work and would still be cheap compared to a vx or vy dunny door. the solid feel is the best thing bout the mercs the 560 makes around 300 hp out of the box which isnt bad I might need to set my sights on a 500 though ( better pricing) as the missus has claimed this merc already.
                      cheers forthe replys

well I have stumbled upon a merc classic and I'm half considering it is cheap and needs work but it runs and the suspension is fine its a 450sel 6.9 what do you think?
paint is average but not high priority interior worn but ok.
its very cheap should I or not. Reading up on them they are awsome 6.9 liter dry sump motor didnt need touching for the first 50 000 miles execpt for oil and filters 0-100 7.4 seconds top speed 140 mph+.
main thing it needs as a new rear window and a tidy up

                        thoughs

Oooohhhh baby a 6.9 is the ultimate fist in velvet glove from that era. A few things, the airbag suspension can be a drama (sounds like youre on to this though), they use obscene amounts of fuel, they are honestly quite quick & seem a lot quicker than 7ish seconds...probably once you got all that metal up & moving I guess.
They do everything right if they have been properly maintained (Ive only driven one, a one owner car, 200kkms full dealer history...& I drove it around Sandown) & will embarrass a lot of cars that wont expect it.

I have a feeling the engine might be a bit expensive to rebuild...so give it a good checkup
