      Pretty much exactly like that.

Any Australian car publication is not a good source considering manufactures will just say, we will pull advertising unless we get good reviews etc.

Do these not have a fold down back seat?

Back seat folds down, can fit 4 tyres in the back for a track day apparently.

So some people on the forums reckon the standard white paint is a solid colour - as in it doesn't have any clear coat on top but mixed in with the paint?

Reason I'm asking is I mentioned it to a Solar Style (ceramic coating guys in Brisbane) and they said if that's the case they don't stand over their 7 year warranty for coating on solid paint as they typically don't hold up anywhere near as well as paint with clear coat over the top.

I'd find it hard to believe car manufacturers are still doing solid paint with no laquar on top these days.

Can anyone confirm the paint on these? (Paint code 040 I think?)

              Thanks

I've seen those same posts and didn't really understand the topic much.
This thread is interesting. Is the 2020 clear coated? | Page 2 | SupraMKV - 2020+ Toyota Supra Forum (A90 MKV Generation)
Looks like it may come down to the factory. That forum is obviously USA so they have many factories which build all of the different models, and it looks like even now some models (4wd's mainly) from some factories do use single stage paint (colour and clear together). Most people who refinish/respray say that they are dual stage (colour coat then clear coat). There was also a definite change in the US around 2015.

My take, with the car being built in the best and most specialised factory within the Toyota network, I'd say our cars are dual stage with the base 040 and a clear coat. But like I said, I have NFI and this is a total guess based on 20 mins of research.

Yea I saw that Supra thread as well. Lots of conflicting info. I too would imagine that they’re surely using clear coat on top especially for longevity of the paint. Fingers crossed.

There are not many truly terrible cars on the market these days so the chance of a car getting rubbished in a review is pretty low. The chance of a light awd turbo hatch getting a bad review is even lower. Toyota would have to have colossally fucked up for this to not be a good thing it has all the right bits.

compare the paint of the engine bay to the rest of the panels. In the toyota metallics they don't clear the bay, it's really obvious. If the 040 truly does have the clear mixed in with the base, then it will be the same as the outside panels. I've not had a look at an 040 from the factory for a while, but I do believe it is still cleared. I'll ask one of the boys from toyota.

On another note, I've sprayed a bunch of cars in normal 2K solid base with no clear, oldest one has a 9 year old paintjob now with about 3 of those years in the QLD sun and it still looks great (and is even the dreaded toyota dog's dick red which turns pink over time)

                          Cheers.

In other news I just got a call from the ming mole asking about tints and paint protection. She sounded really flirty, she must like me.

Surprisingly she was not pushy at all when I politely told her I didn't want anything from the dealer.

I have been in the room when said manufacture has said, we will pull advertising..... Nek minit "car of the year"

it might be hard to have a truly terrible car, but that is what a scale is for. if said shit car is a 1 and it still semi-decent then a 10 would be that spot on car. of course, these scales would change to suit segment.
