      Probably better than the euros

I note the B7 RS4's on CarSales are all manual ... no AMG ever came in manual, here, did it?
The closest thing I can think of that's not an RS4 would be to wait for one of the few manual Gen-F HSV Tourers to come up for sale ... heaps cheaper to run, but not exactly in the same league WRT the touchy-feelies such as a quality interior.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Does it have to be manual?

The B7 was the one with the timing chain mounted against the firewall no?

Apart from having half the number of cylinders, wouldn't a Golf R wagon & change (and your sanity) be the go?

That's exactly the appeal with the B7. Double the cylinders and 8000rpm. S4/RS4 motors just about only have the displacement in common.

I've driven a B7 manual and a B8 auto. both cars were great but the high revs meant low torque down low and they didn't sounds like a V8 until every speed limit s broken.

C63 on the other hand sounds like a proper V8 (and mine is the turbo) at sane speeds and is a pleasure to listen to.

A high number of RS4s were stolen back in the day, I always wonder if the cheaper ones on car sales have a checkered history.

Maybe a bit of hidden loot under the seats?

Fuck the V8! The solution was posted 1 or 2 pages back. RS6 twin turbo Lambo V10 for fuck all more than a RS4.

There was an absolutely mint wagon on Carsales the other day as well for about $60k.

Thanks for all the info guys, i agree the RS6 would be an awesome car but the wagons rarely come up for sale. I'll keep a lookout though.

They chew tyres like a fat kid eats donuts and there is a common problem with the inlet / variable vale timing that most people just ignore as its expense to rectify.
