This! I recently got a low km (67k) T5 C30 and love it. Comfrotable, quiet, reliable and T5 is not bad on fuel. That N/A petrol above would be better though. I do about the same km as you. That D5 S40 would be perfect though!

details of the drive, stop start in the city traffic is going to drink fuel no matter what you drive,

A 60km trip down a flat freeway a small 3/4 banger will do the job. Driving up and down a twisty mountain, whilst its fun for a spirited drive in a manual might be ome a pain in the arse and a added expense of a clutch.

SW20. Unloved but have JDM reliability. One spare seat for a kid.

            If Aurion, what about 380?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

380s are a good bus, but mostly owned by rats, and thus driven into the ground.

Id it were me, id be looking for an FG ecoboost or LPI. No idea if they fit the price range though.

Stretch the budget a little for a Mk6 Golf 103TDI.

                Alternatively, a Rolls-Royce Cullinun.

GS460? Rare, V8, gets up and goes pretty good, reliable.

Anyone who doesn't reckon ~$5k* & cool is achievable is cooked.

I was originally looking at W123s (ignoring half my own criteria) but don't think it'd be a good idea.

                        What about this: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...SE-AD-6516995/

Also considering a TDI Passat and Skoda, Isdera Commendatore and a Lister Storm.

                        *~$5k means $5k +/- $10k

Hard to find someone who will pay you 5k to take their car unless it’s a current model Holden trax

Camry is the answer, up to you as to how long you want to kick tyres on other cars before you work that out.
                                .
