    Water pump impeller clearance

    Hi All,

I am working on a 1973 Saab 96 V4 at the moment and I have a question about water pump clearances.

How much space should there be between the impeller and the rear housing on a water pump? I have had to build up the rear housing with epoxy as it was quite badly pitted (I suspect from cavitation rather than corrosion).

At the moment I have impeller contact with no gasket, but should have about 1mm of clearance once both the gaskets are in place.

    Is that about right?

    Thanks,.

Gasket clearance is a good start.

That is about what I ended up with. Spins freely without hitting, seems to pump.
