Back in March of this year, M2K Motorsports took the GT to a Texas Mile event with hopes of surpassing the near-mythic goal of 300 mph. They’d hit as high as 293.2 at a previous event so they knew that speed was theoretically attainable, but after hitting 299.2 mph earlier in the day, there was a little bit of concern. “We hit 293 at 45 pounds of boost, and 299 at 47 pounds,” Kevin says. “That was a bittersweet run for us – we were stoked to have hit a new personal best, but we also thought that might have been all that was in it. It was kind of heartbreaking to think that that might have been where we would finish for the weekend, so we decided to turn it up the boost just a little bit more.”

went 300.4 on 50psi of boost, through a pair of 86mm turbo's ice'd water:air's towed to the line etc - they estimate it makes about 3000hp (it's probably not that much, but it's more than 2500)

Kevin notes that the Texas Mile’s tire rules were kind of set up around this car. “This is way past the realm of what a tire like the Hoosier R1 was originally designed to do, but ultimately there just aren’t tires out there that are speed rated for this kind of thing. But because of the success we’ve had with them, anything faster than 225 now has to run R1s. We change the set every two passes, and we’ve never had an issue.”

DLRA indicate they use a 9 mile track, that would be much more representative of what is required.

Likewise Ehra Lessien has a 5.4 mile flat straight between the banked turns.

You spend millions of dollars on building a car like this and then apparently ‘apparently’ you release the wrong video? It’s a pretty piss poor excuse. How the heck does a video go through all the edit stages and viewed by multiple people before public release and this shit isn’t picked up on? I call bullshit.

Even if they do rerun again and they’re independently verified as doing 331 it won’t be that impressive given what has transpired over the last week or two. If I was in the market to buy this I certainly wouldn’t be giving them any cash. Too much bullshit surrounding the supposed record attempt to trust them with cash. I’d be buying a Jesko instead-or at least trying to buy someone out of their build slot as production is sold out lol

Because its only a 240mph supercar. Still impressive, for Y rated tyres.

Tyres will probably explode before that. Both Koenigsegg and Bugatti had to have tyres custom made for them by Michelin. Bugatti say they are done with speed records, as they have found the limits of road tyre technology.

I find it hard to sit through his vids with the odd exception. This series of vids questioning the SSC record attempt has been quite well done and unlike a lot of automotive youtubers it’s got some good analysis in them. Hats off to him (and others) for actually getting off the fence and asking the questions that need to be instead of playing it safe.

Fuck Motor Trend. They’ve lost a lot of cred in my eyes for declaring ‘case closed’. Fuck off. Make with the data that shows case closed. Otherwise they’re just like kissing SSC’s arse so they can get access to the car. Pathetic.

I was prepared to give SSC the benefit of doubt, but no, they stupidly tried to pull the wool over peoples eyes, and failed.
