Seeing that video reminds me of the Shelly Howard fatality in the states where the throttle jammed open on a top fueller with the car ending up at 250mph heading the wrong way. Took out the van her son was sitting in behind the start line and killed both. Pretty freaky and fucked up.

There is almost zero chance of that car being legal in victoria despite the plates.

This for sure. You can see the bonnet damage in the video when rolled back over.

Learning to hoon as a 14 year old in a paddock basher, I had the throttle get stuck regularly. While I got good at picking it and shutting it off (then flicking the key back to not have the steering lock come on and send you into a tree) I assure you the first time for me was a clusterfuck as you're just not expecting it and have a procedure on how to deal with it....in a high powered car with lots of noise and shit going on can see how shit can go wrong real quick........

But agree with the sentiment, stupid time and place to do something stupid and ruin things for the rest of us....if its engineered thats also gonna open up a pandora's box....

It's almost like when you get a stuck throttle, the clutch and ignition switch cease to exist..
Well oldmate was in the middle of a burnout, steering around the Troopy coming out of the side street, while going over a blind crest and prolly that was his son in the passenger seat. I’d say that he was too busy watching his life flash before his eyes to use one hand to turn off the key and the other to shift into neutral :-)

Fair call on auto - good point.

And stuck throttle, actually, I have experienced yes. Albeit not quite so many horsepower. (But agree, easier to pontificate from the couch.) The youtube vid is interesting - must have multiple failures there.

Stuck throttle sounds bit like bull shit... if the throttle was stuck why does it sound like he is modulating the throttle? And why when it hit the pole does it not bang off the limiter like a mofo?

But imagine the above video scenario playing out at Moffats if old mate had not hit a bollard and tipped on his side and got it shut down, fuck!

The video above certainly demonstrates the effect of a stuck throttle, but I’d also suggest the triggering factor in both cases was step 1 - do a burnout.

I even drove it about 2 km by turning the ignition on and off and letting it bounce off the limiter.. Lolz..

He clearly deserves everything coming his way..
Apparently he tried to kill the ignition and get on the brakes but no dice, I don't think there are any brakes in the world that will stop a 1200hp car at full noise and already at speed and do it all in the space of about 20mtrs (about how much room there is where he stacked it).

I'm going to leave you alone for comparing stopping a runaway MX5 vs doing the same in a runaway 1200hp TT V8

Being the car is with crash forensics (obviously) I reckon it will be interesting to hear what else is found. Technically if it's engineered in Vic and driven here on Vic rego then he's inside the rules (I think?) but we all know why people have arrangements like that and the cop on the street might not cotton on but I bet forensics aren't that silly but no idea if they can actually ping him for stuff you wouldn't normally be able to rego here.
