    Cupra coming down under

Cupra vehicles will at last be sold in Australia, with the Spanish performance brand announcing overnight it will enter the Australian market in early 2022.
Can confirm, personally never heard of these (I'm not that good with European models anyway.. lol) but seems like these may tick the boxes for potential owners around here.

Wonder if their advertising strategy will be to give one away on The Price is Right?

You'd have to think this will be an add-on to existing VW/Audi/Skoda dealers in a corner of the showroom kinda thing - otherwise it's hard to see an investment in a new brand with dedicated showrooms etc making sense at the moment.

VW tried with SEAT, and failed, already here ... in fact, Cupra used to be a spec-level, and they sold about 2 of the Ibiza Cupra in 1999.
I think from memory it was a Mk3 GTI under the covers, except with the DOHC version of the 2L which VW didn't sell here, meaning it had the same powah as a 1.8T GTI Mk4? It had a heaps better power:weight than the Mk4 GTI, was supposed to be a fair bit of fun, but I think the whole range suffered from reliability problems

Now I think about it, they tried SEAT before they tried Skoda - except they actually sold more than 5 Skodas I guess.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Not quite, the Ibiza was a Polo underneath. Toledo was a Golf underneath but I think the best spec we got was a 110kW (or so) version.

We got the Ibiza Cupra here with the ABF, which was a bit of a screamer for its time.

So the same reliability of Volkswagen but without the resale? Mint!

Having said that I bought a Skoda back when they were new to the Australian market. So I got a uglier Golf GTI with a bigger boot at about 60% of the new price but 30% of the resale. That was fun.

Cupra is to Seat, what HSV was to Holden.
