    Daydreaming.....race series

It started with an acquaintance banging on about CAD designing a V12 based on a Suzuki Hayabusa engine. My thought was, it's already been done, it's the engine in the GMA T50. That got me to thinking would Cosworth/GMA sell you one? Surely it would make a handy engine in a racecar.

Then I got to thinking, Gordon should set up a race series for T50 owners or anybody else with the wherewithal to join. Build a fleet of single seaters using the bulk of T50 components, say 24 cars in each series, North America, Europe, Asia. and run a series of races. I'd think Gordon may have enough clout to get the series run alongside Carrera Cup or whatever.

Clearly the cars would have to be identical and spacious but it should turn a profit for Gordon and Cosworth, Xtrac etc.as it amortises the costs of development of the T50 components over more vehicles.

    Just aa daydream.......

I did hear they are running one at lemans so if that gains traction, maybe? For the two people that won’t leave theirs in a climate controlled garage

My thinking was to build single seaters using the same components, so there is no value in hoarding them, they have a different chassis and are not registerable, thus people are encouraged to use them. That's why run a race series for them, get a pissing contest going between millionaires and billionaires.

I can't imagine they'd have 'spare' components to use in a race series, I think the numbers would be done to death, and their manufacturing processes/inventory system would be so tightly controlled.

They are making T50s versions which are race cars.

He said he looked at the new supercars category and they fucked with it too much so not going in that. But that kind of thing he has looked into.

GM isn’t. He met with the ACO and they wanted him to add weight to his car which being Gordon Murray he wasn’t a fan of. He’s now in talks with SRO about somehow getting on his bill as part of a series for various trackday exotics.

I was thinking more along the lines of a field of open wheelers with this drivetrain in the back of it.

As can be seen the transmission already has mounting pads for suspension wishbones. Imagine a field of 650 hp 12 000 rpm V12's rather than 5.0 litre Coyotes.

I'd expect that things like uprights and brakes could also be used, I'm pretty confident GMA have the composites experience to whip up a bit of a monocoque to tie all the bits together and the aero experience to make some downforce.

I'd think that many owners would be pleased to buy a racecar with the same unobtainium drivetrain as their road car, only lighter and faster!

A1GP, Superleague Formula, World Series By Renault, Pan Africa Series, Green Prix all say it won't happen

As a race car a SCG007 is a better proposition

Would be awesome but surely given one of those drivetrains would cost approximately USD$∞ you'd just buy a few year old F1/F2 car and run it in Boss GP?

Also I think he said he's looking to setup a race series for the T50

I think it was GM who said that he wants to to have it as part of the end of an existing race weekend, like a monday or something where all the gear and staff are already setup. Starts off as just a trackday and then if there are enough people willing to show up and pay then it can transition into a proper series.

That's what the SRO GT1 series is about. Non-homologated track cars that dont have a home in a series. Cashed up owners race the clock rather than rub panels on the back end of the European GT race weekends. Its a category that has been setup for the T50S, Senna GTR, Brabham BT62 etc.

What could go wrong, gentleman racers in high powered open wheelers! Handicapping it at birth with an expensive engine and components seems like a recipe for longevity too.

Don't think there's a F1 Boss car that's into this century - impractical to support and run.

Do wonder what happened with Reynard's idea from a decade back, after initial fanfare, it seems to have died....old now, so not going to give a fig probably.
