Hako, I take it that you've never driven a P18, 122 or 140? Or a 242GT?

That wasn't my point. The three cars I mentioned are all virtually identical underneath (depending on year model, more than anything else), so if a P1800 is a good car to drive, then so are the other two...
A decent manual 242GT would poop on them all from a great height.

Yes I knew they had the same basic chassis, but the later ones are ugly so I don't care how good they drove, still not as good as most other marques IMHO. Comparison not really relevant as 242 GT is much newer. P1800 chose primarly to my Saint fetish :D

Spac, no I don't buy or read that magazine although now it has got my attention . Can you recall what issue it was in?
I saw a genuine one on the road here once, looked it up and loved it
zac, it was about June 1904... back when it was worth reading... Seriously, it musta been about 1994 or maybe even earlier - back when they were prepared to put interesting cars in there, not just da-ful-seek stuff that the fifteen year olds love...
Snout, wasn't the Porsche the 916, and the VW the 914?

Yes and no :D The 914 had the fizzer of a VW 411 pancake engine and the 916 or 914/6 has the 911 flat six, but both were marketed as a "Volkswagen-Porsche" - whatever that means, not as a Vee Dub or Porsche, according to my trusty World Cars Catalogues.
I could have nominated the Audi er...um.... sorry Porsche 924 but the 914/916 twins were uglier the even the insipid 924.

I think in America it was a Volkswagen-Porsche, but everywhere else the 914 was a VW and the 914-6 was a Porsche... The 916 would've rocked if it didn't cost more than a 911 to produce
