    From todays West Australian

    Aid pledges by Muslim Govts

    Bahrain 2.6m
    Brunei 0
    Iran 0
    Kuwait 12.9m
    Libya 2.6m
    Qatar 32.2m
    Saudi Arabia 12.9m
    Turkey 1.6m
    UAE 25.68m

What a bloody disgrace. Turkey had 100s of millions donated to it during it's last earthquake. The Saudis will throw money at "religious schools" in Indo but the richest country in the world cant cough up more than that! Brunei where the sultan can blow money on supercars palaces and yatchs but cant cough up a cent for his muslim brothers- pfft

I hope this is an eye opener for the islamic zealots

Apparently Arab news media ran with stories that the tsunami was caused by US underwater nuclear testing. Never miss a chance to take a swipe. A bit like Indonesian newspaper(s?) running with stories of Australia invading (complete with dramatic maps with big arrows) during the East Timor Crisis. Facts not required you see.

From last accounts, the u.s was donating around $450 mill in aid (plus around $300mill from private raising).

Now it seems like its gonna end like a cheap wedding where countries dont want to be outdone, or seen as tightarses on "gifts" they bring to the party.

Not that I'm exactly a champion of Arab media, however I think it's pretty important to realise that "Arab news media" you're referring to is the viewpoint of one or two nutcase countries, instead of Arabs as a whole.

That said, I think we should give Saudi Arabia a few lessons on all things cultural...

Good on Schuy, what an absolute champion.

In contrast, Telstra has only donated $100,000 - for a company that makes $4 billion profit a year i think that is pretty weak. That is like what 0.000025% of their total profit.
                    Fucking wankers.

Don's going to pop around and fix up the gardens for the people of Aceh. Apparently he's drawn up plans for a really big water feature.

And Jamie Drurie is planning a Phuket Blitz where he tarts the whole place up in less than 48 hrs whilst the residants are away on a mystery trip to the Gold Coast.

don't say our aussie celebs are just standing around with thier hands in pockets - they love to help a battler!

Well good old Johnny Howard has pledged $1 billion dollars in aid over the next 5 years...

That's a crapload of cash, and a good gesture by the Australian government, but it really is going to turn into a pissing/publicity contest...

$500m is in non-interest loans, so technically we'll get that money back over time. I wouldnt be suprised if some big Australian companies make some money out of the rebuilding either. But glad to see theyre doing something at least.
