i have driven the manual Accord and the Mazda 6. Was actually looking on the weekend at getting a new red accord.. but baulked at the changeover!!

For the money... the Accord is a better car /buy than the equivalent Mazda 6 model.
The engine is more refined and powerful and the ride is quieter (Mazda6 is noisey). And i think the finish of the Honda is just that much better.
That said the price of the BASE model Mazda6 is amazing. A lot of car for the money there and much better value than the Mazda3.

That said... neither car is much quieter than my 2.2L Astra. Seems like Holden can get at least one engine right

May i put another car in the ring (so to speak)... You can now get the base model Vectra with the 3.2L V6/5 speed auto combo. Now that would be an impressive package for the price.

Other cars to consider... Camry Sportivo 2.4L,Liberty 2.5,

or a st170 (if you can get them I think they may be around $37)
Hasn't been available for over 6 months.

A Subaru Liberty 2.5i starts at just under 35k but I'm sure you can do a better deal, looks better than a euro, less common (by abit), AWD, nice interior, well made and very comfy.

Fair dinkum - how much ???Can you get the manual or auto only? It's a great torquey engine that i much prefer over the Honda euro and in another league fom the mazda6 .

XR6T Would be the dream but budgetry contraints won't allow it.

No preference with manual or auto. (Drive a manual now and its ok)

Im not after performance, mainly creature comforts like air con, keyless entry, nice stereo, etc...

The Acorrd and Liberty both look good but Im not sure on the price of a Lib?

I would prefer not to get the complete bottom of the range as they always seem to skimp on the stuff you need.

We are talking after leasing company discount so proably a few grand off $rrp.

Falcon Classic seems good with A/C, power windows, premium sound, dvd player, alloy wheels etc... $34800

I seem to recall that I could have got one for <35k when I was looking.

Falcon = below average (compared to Accord etc) resale value.

You gotta look at the bottom-line (ie. monthly lease value) with company or leased cars; poor resale doesn't seem to affect the monthly rental as much as I originally expected, and if it's a true "company car" (ie. the car's in the company's name & you don't get any advantage from a car being worth more than the residual) then poor resale is almost irrelevant.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Resale is irrelivent in my case, and it doesn't affect the monthly payments.

In looking I also found Pugeout 206 GTI180 looks pretty good too.

The thing that will affect the repayments are things like cost of tyres, fuel, average service cost, etc...
