Recently he has made efforts toward the possibility of compiling a dvd for the purpose of public education, basically to show various in car footage etc, of different traffic situations and or violations, - basically a 101 on what happens, and how police respond.

It seems someone from aus.cars decided to be a Benedict Arnold, and complain to his superiors about it. Rather than achieve their (i.e. the dobber) objective, the call and the resulting discussion meant they (his higher ups) have actually seen some merit in the idea and are going to check into any and all legalities with regard to it's viability, which admittedly might take until we see Halley's comet again, and if possible go ahead with it.

His posts are well received in aus.cars for the most part, and it's definitely the better for his contribution, whether we all agree on everything or not.

I will say this, he takes road safety seriously, and he has gone on record as saying that when a situation arises where he has to engage in a pursuit, he's far from 'thrilled' about it, and is genuine about his desire to prevent road deaths..

^^^^ agreed. I used to post on aus.cars VERY regularly (back when I could get a good news feed at work), and he seemed to have a good attitude.

I had a few runins with him back when I used to post on aus.cars - he seems like a pretty genuine guy and he _really_ believes he is fighting the good fight - but he has an incredibly warped view of the work ethics of other police.

Many times when people would post about their experienced with an asshole cop, he would flat out call the person a liar, and damn near refuse to acknowledge there may be asshole cops out there.

Whilst I understand the desire to stick up for his workmates he really took it to the extreme, if you saw the posts you'd understand, they were moronic to say the least.

Are you asking whether I work at Miranda Police Station? Sounds like you're getting cocky with me son. I think I am going to have to defect your car.

But no, I don't work there.

Ask him if he will come back to Performance Forums if we promise to be nice. After all, we are on a recruitment drive at the moment!

                      I doubt he'd be interested.

The hardest part of their job must be that in almost every instance, you would always be meeting and seeing people when they are at their worst. Even with mundane things, as a HP Officer this would be the case. The person you have just pulled over might be the nicest person in the world and generally a law-abiding citizen like yourself, yet you have just caught them breaking the law, perhaps by accident, although you never really know. The bottom line is that they have broken the law and it is your job to inform them of this and if required hand out any punishment due. Failure to do so, is dereliction of your duties and one could say you yourself would be breaking the law if you let them off. Where do you draw the line?

In a social environment, very few people would let you be one of the boys and in most instances people would jump on you if you ever deviated even slightly from the straight and narrow. He wouldn’t be allowed to have fun and enjoy the Forum in the same manner as you or I. If Spooky were to participate here again, it would take about 2 days until some lame-brain started going off about cops. Prior to that, a large number of people would treat him with suspicion. I would go so far as to say that very few people here would be mature enough to cope and would view it very much as a fox in the hen house.

The very nature of his job, which he obviously is passionate about, prohibits him or at the least is a major impediment to allowing him to be one of the boys. It’s a real shame actually. I’ve seen some of his newsgroup writings, and he does seem like a decent bloke and someone you could really enjoy a beer with. Which is not surprising and pretty much how I remember him from our days together at High School a very long time ago.

Which is the one thing that really annoys me about cops and probably does more harm to their collective image than anything else. Its not far from that to turning a blind eye to corruption, as the Fitzgerald inquiry in Q so completely demonstrated.

I personally know a cop who is a member of this forum, he doesn't hide the fact that he's in the QLD Police force and there's really no reason for him to do so. He's a car enthusiast just like the rest of us, and loves a great drive early on a Sunday morning

Cops can offer a lot of insight to these kinds of forums if they are the right kind of person, just like and member of the community can offer a lot to these forms "if they're the right kind of person".... What I'm trying to convey is that people shouldn't necessarily be typecast purely on the basis of their profession/vocation. The guy I'm talking about is a top-notch bloke and the fact that he's a policeman and has extensive first-hand experience in a lot of the matters that get discussed here simply adds weight to his opinion if you ask me. (no, I'm not talking about "spooky"!).

Some of you might know who I'm talking about, I just thought I would not mention him by name because I didn't want to make a specific issue out of it. We've got to try and be a bit nicer to each other around here!

                          Simon.

Is "Cops" derogatory? I thought it was generally considered fairly innocuous.

Remember the old "COPS ARE TOPS" advertising campaign in schools?

Should we call the female Police Officers policemen as well? I don't see the problem with calling them cops either.

                                Remember, Cops are Tops!
