No one is holding a gun to your head to stay in the job... everyone is replaceable. You can walk away from your job just as easily as I can walk away from mine.
I have been doing this Job for coming on 20 years. Before that I was in the Military. (6RAR) I am 42 yrs old. Not like I can run off and start a mechanic apprenticeship. Anyway, the good in my job always out numbers the bad. You are taking a small part of a coppers duty and concentrating on that. Their are times when I love what I do, and hate what I do. I think you will agree that most jobs/careers have that.

but with things like holding a speed gun at the bottom of the hill and penalising people who are generally law abiding citizens, it makes the work all that bit harder for me to change my attitude (which is different from respect).
I agree. Hopefully with enough people voicing their opinions legally, things will change. Remember though, the copper people abuse for standing at the bottom of a hill with a speed gun is usually the same one they admire for wiping up the remains of fatal traffic accidents. Do I agree with standing at the bottom of hill with a speed gun. No. (Black Spots etc excluded) There may well be a legitimate reason why he is doing it. They may well be other reason!
Whatever happened to gasgasgas? I had a few good discussions with him, last I heard was he was getting married then never heard from him again. Was a fantastic person from the discussions I saw here.

WTB in Melb - Ford AU 6 cyl engine - needs to be in good condition
Of course we have opinions. You have to understand that some may want have a job the next day, therefore need to be careful what they say, publicaly.
That reminds me of what happened over here a month or so ago. There is this stretch of apparent "killer road" lots of accidents etc. This cop was being interviewed on the news about the latest accident and he said something along the lines of "The road doesn’t kill people, idiot drivers do, if there were not idiot drivers then these crashes wouldn’t have happened. It's a big sweeping corner the road is not going to cause the crash people doing stupid things is. The road doesn’t force people to cross the center line etc etc
He was reprimanded by the police as his comments were "not inline with police policy on road deaths"
This is just a post I thought I'd share about my personal dealings with police. Whilst I have had fantastic support from officers 'out in the field' I have also seen the darkside unfortunately, and it makes me bloody well sic to my stomach.
I just honestly wish so many less cops in my town in particular were corrupt.....
At a young age me and all my school-mates came across shite that we still have never got over.
So apart from what damage they did to me and my mates lives, changing us forever- they also still live on doing what they do to other people.. Taking advantage of people at their weakest.
And to think, I then watch that movie years later-'Training Day' and it gets me thinking, they're everywhere and their morals are so appauling it makes me wonder how the legal system really could possibly work.
