I hate to get all technical here with my ergonomic skills... but it depends on the proportions of your body. I am not tall (5'10") but have trouble fitting into a lot of cars as I have a taller "trunk" than average. You really need to judge each car on it's own and it's not always the case of bigger car-more room.

HoonBoy - I know exactly what you mean - I have to drive my mr2 with the sunroof off if I want to wear a helmet...

My partner is 6"7 and when i first let him drive my car i was quite surprised he actually fitted...i drive an excel which isnt exactly the biggest car around but he still has alot of head room altho the width isnt great but he manages :D
the only car that ive seen him in that looks like a good fit is his monaro...tho he does think the seat can go back a bit more

4WD are the hardest cars for him to fit in...cant close the door coz his legs dont fit

i'm 6'2 but reasonably tall in the body, I have a helluva time fitting in most cars comfortably. I borrowed a '99 subaru RX and found the pedals too small and close together, and my feet constantly catchingf under the plastic crap under the column. it was about 4 inches too short on legroom to be really comfortable, and coz of said small pedals, I couldnt even tuck my feet behind them on the highway.

Surprisingly enough, there was plenty of headroom.

A mate drives a current model RX and he's 6'4, and constantly accidently kicks all the under dash wiring out, causing the indicators to stop working, and in one instance, the ECU wiring!

It pisses me off that there is more leg and head room in my old shitbucket VW beetle than there is in most current model cars (even if it is so narrow I have to drive with the window down so my shoulder and elbow can have some room).

The Holden Statesman (im told it's the same as VN commodore even if I refuse to admit it :p) I bought has ample leg and headroom, and is very comfortable, except for the drivers seat feeling like it was made from hay bales.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

im a bit over 6 3" and have a RA40 celica good thing about t is is its a nice deep sit in position. but it is a shit to drive in traffic as my ankles are on realy bad angles for the stopping and starting and the slipping of the clutch and stuff

i am hoping to get myself a flat bottomed steering wheel in the not to distant future to help with my knees near the steering wheel.
                  yep

RX7s are a shocker if you have long legs..

I had to get a flat bottom wheel in my s2 because my knees wouldnt make it under the standard bus steering wheel

And I dont know about anyone else, but on manual VL commodores, my feet get stuck under the plastic trim of the dashboard...

i'm 6'5" and drive a honda crx, which thankfully is quite long in the legs, but i have about 2cm of headroom , i agree though stay away from 4wd's and utes, i barely fit in a pajero or dual cab hilux, dont judge a car by its appearance, get in there and check it out, i laughed when i first saw the size of the crx

and here i was thinking there were only midgets out there :D

re - too tall for most cars

I had that problem 6 years ago after getting my p's.
I am 6'7" and was looking at getting either a VL Commodore or Nissan Skyline (VL's were actually cheaper),due to their roominess, but I was unemployed and a student and a good VL was too expensive even for my parents,a used car salesman tried to flog off a VB Commodore to us for around $1500,he mentioed a lot of big younger blokes bought either Falcons or the older VB - VK Commodores, but even back then we couldn't afford to run a car like that, also I knew the mechanics in a used car like that were inferior to what was in a Japanese car or a VL Commodore.
I was impressed with the smoothness & performance of a VL Turbo I went in ( I also loved the sound of the turbo spooling up) which led me to a hard pressed crusade to get a VL,we eventually got one through a friend whose friend was a used car salesman (unfortunately),it was reduced from $7999 to $6999,but he reduced it to $6350,the reason I mentioned unfortunately is I ventured into the world of deceit (I have only met 1 genuine used car salesman in my life),I had a bit of an accident in it and we found all if the rear window sill was rusted and the rust holes in the boot had been covered over with bog & flashing used in house roofs, then painted over.
I still have the motor in my current VL (crashed the one we bought) and the things that only seem to stuff up on it have been the airflow meter & fuel injectors,on the last car it went through a couple of pumps.
I would've got a 4 cylinder if I was a small bloke as in a smaller car a 2 litre can go like hell.

on a serious note...Imprezas do have good head room..that would be my pick for sports car......they are also easy to get in and out of for the horozontally challenged as well as the vertically.
