xy gts are everywhere, as well as look alikes.

I much prefer a nice v8 fairmont, every bit as much a car, but cheaper!

I think 08ESE is on the right track with the Fairmont idea, especially for a cruiser, but instead of an XY/XW how about starting with an XT or an XR for a slightly diffrent look. If you are building it up as a cruiser, can do pretty much all the work yourself and don't get carried away with the engine and driveline spec, you should be able to come in under 15k.

You don't really need to use a 9" diff behind a mildly tuned 351, a disc braked BW78 out of a later leaf sprung Falcon should cope just fine, especially if you use an auto & don't go round doing skids everywhere, and is cheaper than using a 9" & toploader.

Concentrate on getting the body straight & putting nice period looking trim in it & make sure all the body rubbers etc are good, replace everything that wears in the suspension & scrounge around for a good set of 2nd hand rims, you could end up with a pretty nice looking & driving old falcon.

Think of it as a restoration with a few choice mods, I think it would be much nicer to drive than something with an over the top engine that the rest of the car struggles to keep up with. Writing all that kinda makes me want one now

ZD Fairlane, now you're talking, but they are getting a bit pricey for decent original examples, which will most likely still need a shitload of work.

I still reckon a capri would be the go. A lot more fun than a bigger car IMO.

im going the capri option, injected 302w would look nice in one and a fair bit of poke

You can pickup mk1 and mk2's for under $7000 easy enough.

What's the biggest engine you can get away with in a Capri? Or because they sold Peranas (admittedly not many of those) you can just match what they had?

Then again, I suppose CAMS and the DoT see things differently..!

[QUOTE=FOR22A]A Capri would be unreal but i think that's way out of budget, finding one is hard enough.

This doesn`t help much but around the road - V6 Capri small amount of damage in front.Second motor.Very good condition $4500 he was asking for it the last time I talked to him.If I was after a car and money spare it would be mine. (Brisbane)
