I saw my dream car drive past me today... I could whip out the camera phone fast enough though...
Totally cool Fiat Bambino... sounded like a bad lawnmower....
      Looked cool though.
I wanna put a little turbo on one...

plenty of ugly 20 storey council blocks in the burbs :D

Cars are replaced more often cause they are cheaper and MOT's a on the whole quite stringent.

for example, the porsche I could buy here with a years salary would cost me 3 years salary at home.

VAT is high too, so that add to making 2nd hand cars much cheaper.

Cplus....it gets a bit circular with 2nd hand cars in the UK...are they replaced more often because they are cheaper or are they cheaper because they are replaced more often?? I also think a 10 year old car in Australia is probably in better nick than a 5 yr old car in the UK.

Whereabouts are you living in London?

When I was over there I was in Islington for a while, then I moved to Fulham just near Fulham Broadway and ended buying a place in Fulham (Sands End) just off Wandsworth Bridge Road.

The White Horse (Parson's Green) was our local.

Not far from where you ended up actaully.

            Currently i'm in West Kensignton.

I understand what you mean with cars, and yeah generally they get treated badly.

the 993TT pics i posted a while back are testament to that. I know have an almost spankers 996TT (yummy ceramic brakes :D) and a 360 modena spider that are almost as bad. Both relatively clean however.

on the whole though, they're much more affordable so I think that has alot to do with it.

I was looking at buying this 1954 75 P4 rover, for only $2000 a few weeks ago.

But decided on a couple of mercedes 280s's from 1970/1969

there is a 60's nissan cedric wagon grey floaing round the west of melbourne I never have my camera when I see it. most of the cars you guys are posting I dont think of as old cause its what we drove when young ie the 1275 mini and the madza 929.

one car I would like to put in my garage is a 49 mercury sled :D for the coolness factor. more current an affordable on my wish list not much but I would love an hq type thing with 400 chev etc for once a month.

I spose you can ask how old is old...... I reckon anything 30 years or older so you're early Mazdas etc are worthy of attention. The thing that appeals to me about you're 1965 to 1975 cars is what Maggala said - these cars were bought in dealerships and driven around - they are part of our history but they aren't quite as rare as your 1950's etc cars so you still have a chance of seeing a mint daily driven one or finding parts in the wreckers if you get lucky.

My mate had one, he was going to restore it but sold it for $200 when he moved away. I hope it ended up with someone who would have put it all back together and keep it going.
