Reminds me of an episode at TC Day at Uni one year. We bought a running (just) 730i BMW for a thrash car which had a incontenance problem (cracked head) and turned it into a pimpin' convertible to drive around campus (much trouble we got it for that alone).

Toward the end of the day after lots of thrashing the gearbox let go, engine just kept going unbelievably, as long as we kept feeding it gallons of water. No gearbox = no go so time to blow it up. All the usual feats were perfromed - thinning the oil, lots of timing etc etc and it kept going for ages until a mighty BANG.

Luckily the car was facing in the right direction opposed to the 60 strong crowd as the flywheel proceeded to shear itself away from the crank at around 7000rpm it hit the ground and zoomed off at 90deg to the car for a good 400m at an amazing pace.

This thing would have cut some poor bugger in half if the car was 180deg round the other way - and we wondered for years why we had to sign up to all sorts of booze license's and the Dean of the uni tried to control us and restrict our shenanighans much to our disgust.

On reflection I don't blame him - we were fricken idiots :D

Note, TC Day = Thomas Crapper Day, Celebration of the *Birthday of the greatest ever Mechanical Engineer

*Not really his birthday, just the last Uni Day of September Each year

The total SAME thing happened to me with me R31 Skyline, Flywheel let go, My flywheel, ringgear, bellhousing looked the SAME as that, in fact, my flywheel broke in the exact SAME places as the one in the pics, now hearing that it happened to someone else, Maybe nissan had a bunch of faulty flywheels? ... my clutch went though the bonnet, flywheel broke the chassis rails in half, I'll see if I can find the pics .... freaky hey .

Is it not common knowledge that the rb flywheels are shit? If you have one then replace it with a steel one if you are going to abuse it in any way.

I DID have a turbo Pulsar.....no ballistic blanket though and definitely no LSD - it was so uncool I had to get rid of it and now I feel far less whack driving my Ovlov. :p

As mentioned all Century's had a V-series V8 until the V12 was introduced in 97. The early ones had a 2.6 litre version, which grew to 4.0 for the last of the V8's.
