i was in a hit and run about 2 years ago. some guy cleaned me up on a round-a-bout and took off, only to stop just up the road. him and his mate got out of their car, looked back, realised we werent going anywhere and left us. my mate who was in my car got their plate unfortunately i still have not got my excess back and have to wait for the insurance company to get the money out of them until i get reimbursed.
and only 2 weeks ago i witnessed a hit and run. this guy rear ended an excel at a red light and then casually and calmly drove off. myself and another guy chased him and got his plates.

I witnessed a guy driving away after running up the back of someone. he was driving the wrong way down a one way street with a very smashed up car, couldn't see the plate at the time, so I drove on. A few hundred metres up the road, I got to the scene of the accident, stopped, picked up his front number plate and took it to the police station!

Happy to hear your wife's ok. Prick of a thing to do, but luckily nobody's hurt and its only car damage.
Not to belittle your position, but from the pics you've included, any panel beater that has told you you'll need a new quarter is simply out for money. I dont think I know of an insurance assessor who would allow a new quarter on that. Ofcourse perhaps there's more damage that cant be seen either by my eyes, or just in that pic.
Also, that bar and mudflap look completely repairable, but you'll get them on insurance no worries.
Anyway, good luck finding the bastard who did it.<dan-> so just to clarify this.. your dad's defence against car theft is a swift piss on the face ?
Regarding the french cars, from what i've been able to deduce the wheel and hub are fitted together as blanks (no holes) then a man named jacques gets a drill press and drills between 2 and 7 holes in random locations, the hubs are then tapped (each hole with a different threadform to prevent the wrong bolt going into the wrong hole) and the wheel and hub are bolted together and then attached to the suspension. - Hotgemini
