I like the sound of the FIAT but would need to run Nc as they werent produced until 66. The problem with Nc is I would be up against XU1's, Camaros, Mustangs, XY GT's etc.
Don't mind the Alfa either but would be worried about cost and availability of parts. There are a few Hillman Imp's going around and even some Anglia's but aren't super competitive.
I saw Cutler's BMW at PI and was pretty impressed. It looks to be pretty well sorted but the one I saw on the weekend couldn't get near the Nb EH. Still worth looking into though, I love the shape.
The EH was lapping Wakefield in the mid to high 1:13's with triple webbers, column shift, four wheel drum brakes.
Look as though I might need to go for cubes in Nb with either a Falcon Sprint, Nova or EH. I will have to look into the rules a little but I believe the Sprint was sold in Oz as a 6, where in the states it used 260 and 289 8's. I'm guessing I could only run the 6?

What about a Datsun Bluebird?
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

Mazda probably wouldnt be that competitive, there are a few RX2's doing the rounds in Nc though...
In fact they don't do too badly, surely a 12A PP would produce some decent hp in a small car?If you're not first your last

Pre 64 for group Nb - the class I would prefer to race in
Post 64 to 72 Nc - the class that includes big hp falcons, camaros etc (most have big budget race cars, I believe Stubbers Camaro recorded a higher top speed down conrod than the V8 Supercars). An RX2 would be in the class. If you're not first your last

Pretty sure they aren't eligable and run in the Sports Car category. Even if they were I don't think I could drive a "Modified Garbage", they definately get going just not my thing.
No offence to anyone who owns one

Can I ask what sort of a budget youre looking at? I know some of the Nc cars are worth over $200k to build...
I looked at historics a long while ago & decided it was very expensive for the lap times they do. Of course this is because its a good competitive category & in order to be competitive you have to spend as much as the fast guys. I recall talking to a guy who had just sold his mini, it owed him $40k & it wasnt anywhere near the best out there. He got $25k for it, which is a better return than you get in most categories.
As far as costs go, the good news is that unless you mess up you are unlikely to cop any accident damage. The guys just dont come together, which is great for the wallet when compared to say commodore cup or IP.
IMHO you should have a budget of around $50k to build the car as a minimum, regardless of what you start with. If you decide on an 8 then you can kiss goodbye to that much (more actually) for a competitive engine alone.
