Good to see it had no speed cut!

I do agree, taking someones personal property is wrong, after all, drunk drivers dont lose their cars , and how many times has one heard about a drunken driver who then gets back behind the wheel and kills , mames an innocent person.

    its a ridiculous double standard

then I could get started on the drug dealers, rapists etc, but they dont dare to speed....

I thought one of the pillars of common law is that the punishment fits the crime?

So I say, while the driver is obviously a moron I applaud his foolish attempt to stick it to the man.
WTF? Did you miss this? He deserves a lot more than a $17,000 financial loss.

Harrison blew the engine in his Japanese export during the car chase when he reached speeds of 226km/h on the M1 on February 24 this year, which was his third offence. He was involved in a rolling blockade and sped when police arrived, but the chase ended when his car broke down.

        His SR20 blew??? Lame.

Personally I don't agree with any personal possession confiscation laws.

This guy is a dick to be busted three times.

Be that as it may, I'd burn my car before I'd let the police take it.

It's a matter of personal principle you see.

yeah, burning down can be "an accident" - being stripped is a little different

I'd support it if the car was bought or built with stolen parts or money from drugs or selling stolen stuff. But noooo you can only lose your car for speeding or chucking a burnout in a cul-de-sac.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

In WA, laws allow property , including cars, to be taken if its from the proceeds of crime

Not sure about other states. That i agree with

That is well fair enough. One would agree that ROTAR or whatever deserves his car to be confiscated.

But I do no believe that property that is not paid for by the proceeds of crime should be confiscated.

                      I guess the "smartest" thing to do would be;

Replace bling sterio with AM only setup outa anything pre 1985
Replace bling dorri dorri style seats with some nice vinly datsun seats.
14" steel wheels to replace blinging 17's
Could probly go grind the engine number from a l20 or something an change it to sr/ca motor then drop that in.

Or maybe see if you could sell it real quick :D Would the cops take it away from whoover bought it?

The guy is a cockhead who deserves some jail time and a good scare.

But I'm with Tony on this one. To take his car away, being the shitter it may be, is crossing the line.

In my opinion 226km/h on the M1 (which is a freeway yeah) does not deserve jail time. In at least one first world, civilised country this would be not even be an offence let alone one punishable by jail time.

I don't think that many people fully comprehend the problematic effects on societies of sending people to prison for minor offences, since it is in prison that small criminals often turn into big ones.
