The sorts of cars not 'sensible' purchases.

Why would you pay $100,000 for a Ferrari 348GTB or $60,000 for a Mondial?

Doesn't make sense of paper but people do it.

I am sure that when it comes to buying these types of cars, the old buy the best you can afford rule applies, but the guy my dad bought the e30 M3 off has quite a few LHD ones for sale at the mo, he is of the belief the 15yr rule (what is left of it) will be changed to 30 yrs at the end of this one, so bought as many as he could. IIRC prices ranged from high teens to mid twenties... all LHD

I've loved these since I was a kid. However I think it would be the type of car you'd be slightly disappointed by once you drove it. I mean 300hp isn't mind blowing these days, like it was 15 years ago. Like the E30 M3, I'd place this in the drool, but never drive category, just to preserve those school yard dreams.

This car is better than a WRX for the same reason that a $80,000 E30 M3 is better than an $80,000 2003 325i, comfort/reliability/performance are all well and good, but you can't fit aftermarket pedigree.
Don't worry, thats just the self-preservation instinct, in my experience you can safely ignore it.

One of the reasons I like cars, and driving them them - this was the puppy that started it all.

Only because the AU$ is so average. That would be roughly a years wage in sterling for me here - quite accessible.

                            Pig understeer?

Well has taken much time and $$$ to eradicate that on my WRX... and it still isn't a Lancia anyway.

The Lancia is getting old, surely more unreliable, expensive to tune, less understeer than WRX or so I've been told, but WRX would be better built and most likely faster in all conditions. Mind you the S4...well I wouldn't sell a kidney, but damn close, even if it is as safe as grasping a live grenade, holding the handle on it with your bum cheeks and pulling the pin whilst dancing...but damn are they fast.
The Delta is after all an almost 20 year old design that was stretched way beyond where it started.
