And yet you see racetracks all around the world

Edo you could debate allday how money is mispent by individuals allday - its the users' choice in the end...

Maybe we could have a discussion on how many soccer/footy fields you could build with the retirement benefits of senior parliament members?

Oh... didn't realize we were asking for equal treatment as a sporting event - nah can't totally agree with that one either does require a fair chunk of space (you'd think we have heaps to spare)

According to a news article somewhere the proposed track at Kilcoy is reported to be costing an estimated $300 - $400k + land which doesn't seem like such a huge outlay as the suggested well into the 10's of millions figure

Fact is, motor sport is a joke in Australia. Ever seen where some of the world's great circuits are located? Zandvoort in Holland is on the beach in a very expensive area. It would be like having a track at the end of Hastings St, Noosa. :rotflol: In Italy to have a racetrack in your town or village is something to be respected and proud of. Should see Imola and Monza. It will never be like that here.

Dazza, Everything you said except for the last paragraph is totally irrelevant & really just utter drivel.

I dont know much about the Kilcoy track but if its that sort of money then you are really just building something like Morgan Park which is all well & good but from a $ per person who uses the facility point of view its crap. Personally I reckon its great, bring it on...but removing youself from your own point of view & looking at it as benefitting the largest number of people (or a cynic might say buying the largest number of votes) other sports are simply better value.

QR is now getting used nearly every day of the week. A whole lot of sporting fields, cricket is a good example, may get used on the weekends, say 50 people max attending. Been there many times, seen it.

For a government to directly sponsor a professional football team is disgraceful IMHO. But if people just shrug their shoulders about it and walk away then such inequalities will continue.

Ah, yes but QR is queenslands only real race track. Its the only one that meets any national standards & its the only one that can be used above state level for anything.

Im not suggesting its fair, motorsport is absolutely under represented in funding, no doubt.

Sports fields are used by numbers of teams of people...if you are even half honest you will admit that 10 times the number of people play weekend cricket than drive their car on the race track, if not more. There are gazillions of cricket grounds each with 50 people...then there is the only accessable race track with 30 weekend wannabes (sorry!) once a month...

Sounds like about once a month more often than you get to the track these days.

I was trying to suggest that its not a regular sporting venue...

If you want to play soccer there is already a soccer field (and club) I'm willing to bet no more than 5km from where you are sitting

How many football/soccer fields are there around Brisbane compared to 1 race track (out in the sticks)

And on the topic of numbers... Track days at darlington were 100 bikes which AFAIK this year have all been sold out 3 to 4 weeks in advance @ $150 a pop => $15000 for one day

Yet we could only get one day / month....

50 people at a cricket game edo?

                        You are retarded.

Of course there are shitpiles more soccer fields than there are race tracks, there are shitpiles more people who play soccer than race cars & bikes. You also get 1000 soccer grounds for the cost of a race track. Proportionally the ratio of users per venue is probably close to even.

Numbers at DP. Firstly, you have to have someone run it so they take money off the top, you need ambulances, you need insurance...so DP actually get probably less than $10k for that day.

Now say you can run one of these days once a week & still fill it. Thats $520k a year, which is a 0.7% return on $70 mill.

Fuck it, lets say you can make $10k a day out of DP...& lets say every year is a leap year (because it just as much a fantasy). Thats $3.66mill a year, or 5.2%. Basically its about what you get in a run of the mill savings account.

Hell even in your $15k a day fairyland its still only a 7.8% return...or less than you would get out of a similarly priced office building in todays over heated market.

50 people at a cricket game came fro 260det, but why dont you think there would be, 2 teams of 12, couple of coaches, wives, girlfriends...50 is a shitpile closer than $15k a day at DP

Ambulance edo? ... There was a doctor but no ambulance...

How much would a cricket ground make in a day? $12 / player so we'll say $300 for a day of cricket that doesn't even pay the wages of the guy they get in to get the grass - Oh hang on I forgot to allow for umpire fees! (what do they make a day?) Oh... hang on I forgot to take off insurance I'm sure you need that people hurting themselves these days

So I guess if we're counting 50 for cricket we could count a good 200 people at darlington assuming staff, mashals, family, friends etc...?

But its all about making lots of money yeah.....

You're forgetting the Public Liability Insurance that you'd need to run anything on a race track!

You are quite clearly a fucking idiot.

How many people play weekend cricket in Brisbane? How many people want to drive their cars/bikes on race tracks? Given that probably 100 times the people play cricket...if not more...than want to play on race tracks the government funding to both is probably fair.

Fuck, I bet its not cheap to go do other minority sports either, try dressage on a nag, or Royal tennis...no different to motor racing except that both probably actually have higher numbers of participants.

Deal with it. You want to play a minority sport (especially one that has huge expenses associated with it) then you will have to pay shitpiles more than those who indulge in more 'standard' activities.
