I entered the crown in my first full dyno comp over the weekend here in Adelaide at the ExtremeHorsepowerSuperShow (yes-it's actually called that..)-and had an absolute ball-here's the rundown.

The main comp was on Towler Performances Dyno Dynamics in full Shootout mode. Every one was complaining it was reading low-but we were all on a level playing field-so who cares!

1st run was with BFG drag radials. They overheated, blistered and virtually liquified causing wheelspin and limiting the car to 333rwkw.

2nd run I put on the trusty Simex Light Truck tyres, and I also had them strap it down HARD with only 16psi in the tyres, and then jam them up to 60psi after. That fixed the problem and it went 392rwkw.

3rd run I was trying to knock off a yellow 2JZ supra (1000+hp built motor) that had pulled 412rwkw. (bloody manuals! ) I wound the boost up to about 22 psi and went 400rwkw, and then went to 23-24 (not sure-I didn't want to look), but it leaned out and only made 1 more-401rwkw. (well derr-the 044 pump is rated to 600hp...good work einstein) Had I been able to fatten the fuel up it it should have gone better-but meh, it was awesome fun having a go anyway, and the car didn't miss a beat for the whole weekend.

That put it in 2nd outright behind Ben's Supra I84RE (top bloke), and in front of a big block HQ in 3rd.

I then took it over to the 800hp Dynapack dyno in the main pavillion as I've always wanted to use one. I pulled the boost back to around 19-20psi, and he did a quick test ramp to 4400 rpm (it makes max at around 5100). Result-442kw(593hp)!! He then tried a full power run, but as soon as the boost hit, the display screen flashed red with "TORQUE CAPACITY EXCEEDED, ABORT RUN IMMEDIATELY, DYNO WILL SHUT DOWN IN 15 SECONDS"!! They then re-booted the system, and he tried to do a power pull from about 4000 rpm (after peak torque), however it did the same thing again almost instantly. The dyno is rated to 3300nm at the hub.........He wants me to go up to his workshop when he has the software upgrade to allow it to handle 4400nm and 1100hp. The guys said that last week they had the Dynapack at Tenix to dyno a tank, and that didn't top it out......

    Supercrown 1, Dynapack nil. :knock:

I had an awesome weekend anyway.

After all this talk and interest in your engine, I am thinking about building one of these engine next year for my sport compact car, I will be teaming up with a friend and chassis builder who wants to go 50/50, he supplies the car and I supply the driveline, aiming for 6.80's and below. they say you can't beat cubes, except with boost, so cubes and boost will have to = bulk HP, as long as the big fucker hangs together.

AM going to some 4WD wreckers to try and find a stuffed engine to pull apart and see if it will handle 1600-1800hp

Congrats on the car, its an awesome achievement and I hope it all only gets better, just don't do what I did and give up, sell it, or lose interest, If i still had the 4 litre it would probably be making 1000hp by now, people are only now just catchin up to the 550rwhp it made 3 years ago, this jigger of yours has the potential to go 650-700rwhp and genuine 800+hp at the crank with relative ease, don't give up!!

Pfft, sits at 1000 revs for hours. My mate's brother's Magna can do that....

I reckon it's not far off 800hp crank now.

I would think somewhere around 650-680 is more realistic given its weight and mph/rwhp figures. And that is why I had the + sign after the 800 :knock:

hey I wasn't having go or disuputing what you were saying!

just a statement - nothing more, nothing less.

              was a quick calc off of 442 * 1.36 / 0.8 = 751.4

If it read at 590~ rwhp, at a say 15% drivetrain loss you would be looking at around 670 hp at the engine.. and this engine still has headway by the looks of things

if you're going down that path, might be worth having a chat to LukeVL about the 4.8L petrol motor from the late model patrols. They had the head and valvetrain of one in there to do some cams, and he reckons in terms of ports, cams, and valvetrain, it's pretty much just a scaled up RB26.
Not saying the 1FZ isn't a good idea, it's obviously got the runs on the board, but just something to think about

to be legal for sport compact it must be 4L or under so keep that in mind

                            Yup-

Steve and Tate from All Make Motor Repairs and Restorations (AMMRR) were very professional, and very kind to be running cars on their dyno for no charge.

They have an 800hp Dynapack hub dyno (very impressive piece of equipment), do all mechanical work and also sell Autronic.

6-boost, I'll be interested in your assessment of the inside of the motor. Good points are (that I picked up when I had it apart once)

excellent intake port angle (45 deg down ward to valves),
excellent crank design (smooth casting and fully couterweighted),
                            forged steel rods,
oil cooled pistons (oil squirters at the bottom of each bore),
                            internal oil cooler
Windage tray integral to upper sump section
Shim over bucket (no lifters or rockers-although shim under would be the best)

                            Negatives
Narrow angle head design (although these take more boost than wide angle)
                            Scissor drive cams
                            Single row timing chain
                            Head bolts are only 10mm
Engine is fucking massive and fucking heavy
No crank girdle like RB series nissans have (although the upper sump is a pseudo one according to the literature)

I would certainly be looking at the partol motor as well because they are 185kw to begin with and newer than the 1FZ. They may posess a crank girdle also like the rest of the nissan family. I've got no doubt one of those would be awesome (and superior to a 1FZ), but as yet I suspect they may be a bit pricey.

Yep-these motors also don't qualify for sport compact (fuckers... ), but if you sleeve one down and use hilux 2.7 slugs (baby brother to the 1F) it will drop it under the required limit.

I'll bounce you some more info via PM on these as racing motors though.

                            Cheers
                            Sean

15%? thats being a bit nice to a modded stall auto....

Regardless of how much power it is actually making it's plenty considering the level of (lack of?) work done.

Lets just hope the trap speeds get where they should be with the slicks and propel it to closer to 140mph...

I'm not sure what the overall drive ratio was-I'm trying to find out for interests sake though.
The powerpack is only a small part of the upgrade. Going from a 2-stroke diesel to the Mercedez engine you speak of. Plenty of other upgrades but not as special sounding as the Powerpack (7 speed auto, plus the turbo V6).

If you want more info PM me (Im a Mech Eng at Tenix). But obviously not all info is for public knowledge.

Are you sure it was a M113 they tested on the dyno? THere are a few other vehicles that could be called tanks we have here?

Great result on the power output! I saw your car at the show and it looked great!
