Currently looking at a 99 GT Forester and would like to know if its relatively easy to get it to handle nicely?

EDIT: Currently looking at this or a TT 97 legacy wagon and the forester is going to be cheaper to insure and find spare bits for

Trying to convince myself I can afford it. If I buy it, me and a mate are going to fly up and drive back just for the sake of a trip.

its a good price for sure. some jokers still ask over $27k for MY02 Forester GTs.
from memory, darren's XT is an MY05.

So I'm presuming that you guys know this Darren? Any idea what sort of nick the car is likely to be in? He sounds like an enthusiest which is good

He is indeed. Last car he sold was an MY05 STi. He doesn't seem to muck around on price - but I don't think he needs any more money than he's already got anyway

Funnily you should ask. I am meeting him tomorrow.
He is interested in buying my rex.

But he is definitely an enthusiast and looks after his vehicles very well.

What are the older 2.0 lt Forresters like. Is the 2.0 a slug or is it just enough power for the car?

Surely that depends on your definition of 'slug'. Camira power with Commodore weight ...
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

I think my one is a 2.0L ('96?) and it goes well enough. It keeps up with all the taxi traffic just fine. The auto is a 4sp and seems to like hanging in top forever then changing down two gears at once. Kind of annoying but then I'm not used to autos.

Forg, even with the extra weight, it goes much much better than a 2.0L camira. (I've owned one of those things too...)
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

It's the only thing about our Outback I don't like.
I'm 6'3" and have an XT with sun (moon) roof and have no issues. plenty of room.

As for insurance, it is usually around $700 for over 25. I'm paying $1000 for some mods, soon to be $1300 for unlimited mods :w:

Not quite sure what happened, but I recently did a quote on the MY06 XT and insurance for it is now the same price as my WRX. Previously, it was about $500 cheaper.
