Again, if that's what you want, a good example kept stock will be quite reliable.

"...I would consider is the series 6 rx7 but I guess like the gtr and the gtir its getting a bit old now and would require a fair bit in maintenance."

an average s6 is about as hard to look after as a bad GTR (and you really need to put in some long hours of study to own the FD - unless you want exponentially lower car life).

Did bad seals and rubbers stop you buying the car you wanted before...?

Factor it into the buying price and change the things with new ones if it's that important.

RNGTR had trouble with his rubber water lines where a few went in quick succession, but he changed them all over a weekend.

I know all about the hassles of owning a old car, the zed is 32 years old and when I got her she wasnt in good shape, so new everything was required. I am hoping a early to mid 90s car wont require the same kinda cash.

Anyways I will try to budget for a few repairs but I dont think I would let it stop me buying the car I really want. Now just to decide which car that is

I've often thought about this. My Dad has always had '30s, '40s, '50s and '60s cars. You can do most of the work yourself with only a few tools. Modern cars these days are a c*** to work on. Open up the bonnet of an MG or Healey or Datto, and there isn't much to it. An Evo or GTR is a different story. Its a lot harder to do the work yourself with the same basic mechanical knowledge as you need to work on old cars.

No but my car did not cost porka money when it was new.

A mate of mine had this same dilemma, going for a FD RX7, R33 GTR or Evo 7. He went for the Evo, just due to GTR being too old and expensive, RX7 being too unreliable and expensive, and the Evo just being expensive.

That said, the S15s getting imported through SEVS for the mid-20s look alright.

How did these ever get round the rules? Owners of Aussie s15s must be spewing!

It's only the early ones which were sold in japan before they landed here. Local owners aren't too woried as atm they are no cheaper than the local delivered versions.

As far as I know the S15 was only available here from 99-02... therefore the ones before and after this date are ok?

I think the early model S15s are eligible through SEVS, like the 89, 90 and 93 models were with GTRs.

GTR parts are not a lot more expensive than, say Maxima parts from Nissan. I would even say they are similarly priced. It still makes you say : " $40 for a brake fluid reservoir cap ???" but geniune parts are always a rip off, you know that.

They weren't on sale here until right at the end of 00 and were sold here after they were discontinued in Japan so it's the late 98 up to when they arrived here that can be sold
