Happily, stopping distances become irrelevant because you won’t see the obstacle in the first place. By the time you know it was there, you’ll have gone through the windscreen, through the Pearly Gates and be half way across God’s breakfast table.
Read his opinions too http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/sec...,12529,00.html , not just the car stuff. He really does have a knack for writing, some funny stuff in there too.Originally posted by Buford T. Having been an avid fan of the Veyron concept since day one, even while raising a doubtful eyebrow at some of the figures they had mentioned, I found this particular column of Clarkson's extremely satisfying, and a brilliant read...
(As others, I have a problem trying to like the guy, but cannot deny that he can write like no other...I have read all of his columns and most of his books)
Initially I just liked the craziness of the challenge they had created for themselves. I now have immense respect for the big Bug, and especially it's engineers.
I hope this silences the non-believers (ahem...is John in the house?)
I have placed my order for one.

I like it, but not in the same way I like a McF1.
kwottro, have you read Gordon Murray's review of it in the latest TG magazine? It was quite interesting and puts in perspective how inefficient it is to build a car from the aesthethic design backwards. That said, the engineers have done it and very true to Bugatti's over the top style and history. Time will tell whether it is a successful car or not.

Like I said, it was a crazy project. Doesn't matter that it was a totally inefficient design method, cost poofteen billion dollars, and uses the equivalent of a days worth of world crude oil production in a days driving...the thing is - they somehow managed it anyway, and achieved everything that was stupidly promised by their boss. And it works.
Respect.
(ps.No, haven't read Murray's review - will try to get my hands on it. What issue ?)

I'm no Bugatti expert, but I'd debate that it's true to their history. Sure, Bugatti have made some extremely OTT cars in their time (starting with the Royale, then Atlantic series, EB110, now the Veyron), but their early race cars (i.e. the ones that established their reputation) were very pure in concept.Originally posted by zacvery true to Bugatti's over the top style and history. You are probably right, but I only remember the OTT cars!Originally posted by tremoloI'm no Bugatti expert, but I'd debate that it's true to their history.
