    What about a Zonda?

    Oh wait, wrong thread....

I had an Avalon as a hire car a few times. Far better than a Commode with less than 1000kms on it thats for sure!

Seeing as he is going from a foul-can just buy another . BA XT/Futura ( -) not as reliable (maybe) ,bit thirstier, common (+) are cheaper parts cheaper service better car, and are better driving car than avalon no risk at all . also have terrible resale too so will find a 2003/2004 model with 40k -50k on clock for $15-16k easy.or maybe even less.

      or get a maxima .

Have you ever driven one. Shocking :knock:

One year old ones are being given away at around $12K at me local auctions. Nobody buys them.

The foot handbrakes are good for private road shennanigans... Based on that comment I would buy one.

should be doable. my BA futura (clean, near perfect condition) was $17k with 30 on the clock. resale is not too bad when you've bought at that price. i bought my AU3 falcon for $17k also (17k on the clock) a few years back and sold it for $17k over a year later with 45k on the clock.

Maxima engine won the best engine in its class awards for a few years running in the mid-late 90s. Really nice, smooth engine and gearbox combination.

Imagine this... boat on the back and down a ramp. As you back in, inevitably the closer you are to the water, the higher chance you have of moss growing on the boat ramp. Back a boat down the boat ramp, rear tyres on the moss, then it's no way back up without 4WD or FWD. Was actually funny seeing a Berlina stuck on a boat ramp trying to get out with only an empty boat trailer on the back.

itsnotgsr, I don't doubt it but at 6k, the 1MZFE isn't too far behind if anything but if you can justify that extra $ poured into what essentially a vehicle to get from A to B (if you are already looking at that class of cars), then power to the buyer.

so thats the one situation it actually is an advantage.. 95% of the time it's not a good thing. IMHO if you've arsing about on a algae covered boat ramp without 4WD you deserve what you get

In all other conditions the massive lack of traction in a FWD tow car in pretty much negates that singular advantage. In the wet my RWD ute has some traction issues with close to 1600 kg inc. trailer and 200 kg in tray- so lots of weight over the driving wheels = max traction.. I'd hate to attempt to tow that in a FWD car that has to drive and steer through the 2 wheels with the least weight on them..

I just went around to all the places looking for a car for my mum, same requirements. There was so little difference between the two, and anyones bullshit unreliability storys dont mean squat to me. I picked the holden VX because it was the nicest looking, good colour with a spoiler and the best warrenty. Other than that i still wouldn't trust FWD autos, the magna ones are shit house, still.

Good choice on the VX Commodore - the autos in them are a testament to human endeavour and far superior to anything in a FWD car.

                              LOL - still...

I doubt the lay person would notice such a big difference.

if your talking about an avalon - no , dont care to either
I had a BA XT co car for 40000 km was OK . Highly recommend it as Forg's suggests his old man is planning to drive the car into the dirt i would stick with a falcadore as some of the jap cars bite hard on spares in old age. I mean if he has the car in 5 years how much is an avalon waterpump going to set you back , for example . Stuff like that on some japs will bring tears to a man's eyes. And given forg is about 50 that makes his old man what 75-80 years old ? he'll blow the inheritance
