Grumpy's 205 on semi-slicks was a revelation! It was super quick round the Old Pac, even with the old standard engine. It really impressed me how quick it was with that combination of handling and grip.
That's the Pug chassis, not the tyres.

Its not just the car. Semi slicks make a big difference on the old Pac Cal.

Yeah I know, but fit semi's to a shitter and you still have a shitter.

The tyres made a HUGE difference Cal. So much more neutral in the handling. Less inclined to oversteer.
As the smartarse AXGT pointed out, I got to experience oversteer in the Pug coming down Mt Glorious :oh: scared poo out of me.
I lowered the car, stuck on the Azenis and didnt that make a difference, funny thing was, when I, err, "aquired" :D the 15" rims that had Goodyear F1's on them, the actual grip level didnt seem to drop, I was sure they would break away sooner than the Falkens and was very cautious when I first went for a belt around the twisties, but they work quite well.
I guess you can drop time with tyres on the same set up on the same car, but chasing a set up seemed to work ok for the Pug.
as for "learning the car again" - a bit, yes. depending on the tyre it can be a bit less progressive at the limit, and you don't get as much slip angle to warn you that it's close to the limit.
Basically, your responses through the steering in particular have to be much faster, or it can get snappy on you.

Name me, if you can, a better feeling than the one you get when you're half a bottle of Chivas in the bag with a gram of coke up your nose and a teenage lovely pulling off her tube top in the next seat over while you're going a hundred miles an hour down a suburban side street.
Anyone know a tyre retailer in Canberra that specialises in getting some decent road legal semis in? Trying to find one that can get a set of RE55s, DZ02Gs or similar in. It seems as though everyone can get the Azenis in but nothing else (or couldnt be arsed).

I am pretty sure the R888's are dot approved. Does not really worry me though as they are on a second set of wheels that will never see the track anyway.
I would do a 2:29 at phillip island on yokohama 539's on a greasy oily track (first time ever on the track)
and could to 2:07 on a pair of old bridgestone 540s (82 Mazda RX7 13b ep) a year later. I know I can do better
