I was about to ask if it was a VS equivalent ... but it was a V8 wasn't it?
The VS does the same, although putting crap fuel (ULP) in it seems to alleviate the problem. It's about a billionty times more responsive on Optimax though, which surprises me no end!! [Shame it stalls once a day, randomly, on Optimax or Ultimate 98]
I was beginning to lean towards a CAS or TPS problem, but decided selling the car was easier than trying to find a problem that wasn't there every time I went to look for it.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

my neighbours called the cops...... not because of the sound of me working in the garage was too loud, but because i taped a cardboard box to my back, covered my self in vaseline and pretended i was a snail on their lawn
I thought teh Toyota could neva break down (if you read some of the "what car" threads)
sure, still holds true, but nothing is invincible. The crown had nearly 400,000k's on it and lived at bondi it's whole life until I got it.

400k kms out of a 4M must be a miracle ... methinks the M-series engines are the dogs of the family that the engine-ears would rather not be reminded of ...
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
haha yeah would be a miracle for a 4m, but by the time I got it someone had stuck a 5m in it.

i had a bluebird, 84 model, BIG LEMON, also the most annoying Effing car ive owned, ET Turbo pulsar. spent more time off the road than on, fix one thing another would break, i sold it, and it cost the next owner a mint, then he sold it at mass loss like i did...... feel sorry for the prick who has it now.
most relliable cars ive owned ( other than rust ) were Geminis.
mine is a 94, I bought it in the hope that it would be a cheap run around, because nissan stuff is generally well built. This thing is a bucket of shit, can't wait till I buy a statesman next christmas

My parents brought the original magna when it came here in early 86 or was it late 85 from memory. Use to get waves and all kinds of shit when driving it around. Then one day about a 1 year later (with 65,000k on the clock) it all went to shit when it broke down literally in the middle of nowhere, approximately 30 ks from the boarder of NSW/QLD on qld side on the new england highway. After many months of being at the dealer it was finally given back to us with a 500 dollar oil bill, and warranty claim on the rest, ie it the was gearbox for the non informed. Then not even a month later, it fucked up again, was "fixed" again after a week or so, then it was promptly flogged off and replaced with a new vl commodore, fully sik yo.
my first car was a dog typical first car cost me a mint it was a datsun 180b.
no I'm not going in to details .but in the end it was a quick dog lol.
any aussie car Ihav ehad has been shit bought an xf brand new @ 500 klm threw a rocker arm. 2 weeks later a guy ran a red light into the front of it
N12 pulsar. biggest heap of shit i have ever owned.edit: and stupid me has owned 3
my XG ute is starting to come a close second. hopefully it should be for sale in the next few weeks and be sold. great car to drive but the little things that always need fixing give me the shit.
3 broken mitsubishi's (fuck im stupid)
camry (daily)
200 series cruiser (wifeys)
At least if it was a statesman I would be able to fix it myself, with cheap and available parts, sure I will have bits of interior everywhere but at least it would run properly. Not that a WH-WK statesman that isn't flogged is going to be needing many repairs.

Possibly not ... but it'll do things like stalling on occasion, in the middle of traffic, for no apparent reason, and nobody will be able to explain why (nor fix it).

Family had a JB Camira in '82. It was underpowered, needed constant tuning, a new engine, numerous spares and visits to the dealer and it rusted. It was towed to the wreckers after 8 years and 140k kms.
I reckon being free just scares some people shitless
