kind of unrelated, but I got a call from the cops once 'cos they'd busted someone red handed pinching the center caps off the Astra (I had Opel ones on there, which were subsequently recovered, and later sold to someone on these forums )... anyway, they called me on my mobile, which I thought was pretty odd, since it was a work mobile so wasn't in my name. Turns out they'd called my work to get my number.... got me stuffed how they knew where I worked though.

                  heh

well, I work for the QLD police...

lets just dismiss a few rumors.

No, there is no seek3rt gov database with all teh leet infoz. We dont know, nor do we give a fuck about where you went to school and who your wife is. The information (qld state police at least) have access to is a system that allows you to access (for official reasons, accessing such information you are required to enter the reason. Remember every keystroke, mouseclick and character of information looked at is tracked and recorded, our actions are accountable for and we are open to civil litigation, and criminal proceedings (its happened) for unprofessional access under the privacy act)

                  One system:
                  QLD crim history
                  QLD custody index
QLD CRISP database (crime reports, complainant or POI)
                  ARI
                  Domestic Violence Index
                  Weapons Licencing
Query Vehicles (by rego full or partial, vin#, eng#, description, make, model)
Prosecutions (bail, charges, convictions, and orders)

Another system: to search warrants, vehicles, traffic history, photographs of offenders and poi's, addresses, previous addresses etc, previous vehicles owned, vehicle/vin/eng number history etc.

                  and finally another:
To check on the files that are going to prosecution for matters pending court.

If you get rung on your mobile, its for one reason and one reason only, the last time you were at qld transport, you put your mobile number on a document, or a work contact.

I find myself using white pages online more often than QPS systems when I need to find contact details for someone. And yes, they do use their first fucking name, why do you think any fucking copper would ever give out their last name if they dont have to? you realise with the white pages you could just go to their house and fucking burnt it if they rang you. Its quite obvious who an "officer lisa" is, if you know the area you recieved the phone call from and an approximate time, takes 10 seconds to look at the rosters for a district.

Oh and the phones arnt "put" on silent, theyre that way all the time in almost every station for pretty obvious reasons. The 10 or 20 different extensions in a station are treated as silent, why would CIB, JAB, or O/C's etc want random wankers knowing their exact extension numbers to their office. If they call someone, they usually leave the general station number, after all it only takes a sec to transfer a call.

Some of you are such conspiracy theorists.

You guys work in a large office environment with a pabx? Any decent pabx can be set to hide numbers.

The police do use whatever reasonable means to find your number. I've been called on my mobile and home number for some odd reasons.

eg. 'do you own a black Mercedes license ABC-123? do you know where it is? we noticed it sitting in an industrial park at 2pm. can you come and pick it up?'

dude, what's happened to you has happened to me. I'm in Sydney.

Having visited many many police stations as part of work, the cops are often no different from any corporate enterprise.

Well according to the recent PF Poll 'Are you a cop?' 25% of PF members are cops so it could have been any one of 25% of the members here!

Yeah , my point was what is good for the QLD Police may mean sweet fark all in WA.

Im just keen to see if that could really happen to me, as no ones admitted to it yet, and to be bluntly honest, I do travel in circles that involved high powered cars ....

My lawyer has heard nothing of it either....

I wouldn't worry about it. Cops go on fishing expeditions as well.

Often their superiors ask them to give a call knowing full well it ain't going nowhere.
