Only to echo the sensible words of Fatboy, Datman et al - it's much better buying something already done if you are starting out. Trust me when I say there will be plenty of things to keep you busy on it when it's running, let alone having to get it running. That said, I'm just about to start building my second race car - there's none available for my class in the config I want so I have little choice. There will be at least 6 new cars in Prod Sports this year that have been built from the ground up. Hopefuly mine will be ready for '07! Echo Chucks comments too about the MX5 - if you bring in a rally registerable MX5 it's a very cheap way to get into motorsport and there's plenty of cheap cars and parts around. That said, there was a beaut yellow escort missing a driveline for sale in melbourne ready to rock for $7k. Good luck
A slow day at the track is better than any day in the office.

Well Im building this Capri Perana at the moment...& if you want to get an idea of just how expensive it is to do it yourself I have a bare shell, a gearbox, a couple of seats & a few other bits. So far it owes me $16k, I still need an engine, brakes, wheels & tyres, a cage, a diff & many many other things.
Why am I doing it? Because Im actually enjoying the build & Im taking my time to do everything properly, not cutting corners. It will be a nice thing when its finished...but it will be worth half what it costs.

for a simple cheap supersprinter my pick would be a 2.4L Corona Avante (strut front, IRS rear - can be had for $1000) then give it some shocks and springs all round, a bigger front sway bar, some cressida brakes and strip the interior.

Or an AE71 Corolla, worth the same, weighs less, and pretty much anything made for a sprinter will fit on it from what I understand. The 4AGE series motors would go straight in instead of the 4AC single cam that it comes with. Follow the same formula as above.

You won't be setting any track records but it'll be relatively cheap and a whole lot of fun.

Rememeber that on a limited budget you will get much better lap times by spending your money on tyres and handling than if you spend it on the motor.

                Logbooked?
Don't worry, thats just the self-preservation instinct, in my experience you can safely ignore it.

NO ,this is a track/sprint/hill climb or fast road car.It can be logged booked but needs a steel cage for 1.
As for its time around wakefeild it was timed after doing my first 3 laps only had NOT DRIVEN ON THIS TRACK BEFORE got aaaahhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm1.23??????? I was more concerned with getting used to the track and car set up bedding the new brakes and getting used to how for you can push the tyres, which had neven been driven in this guise before.
Once the engine is sorted it should do -1.15s or less.If the diff was locked it may go better again.
It was really a rush effort to get the car to the track as I had only been invited a few days before,I am very happy with what it did for its very first run and if it doesnt sell it may get a zetec or bp1800 turbo, but I want to get into improved production and I wouldnt use this car for that level racing due to its condition.

I think that is the point, I know I wouldn't use my car in any events where someone else could damage it! If I was going to do that I would buy a shity datto or mazda :D:D

                            HA HA HA.

Yes its too good for improved production, they are becoming hard to come by in this "CONDITION" and I dont want no dato wiping me out on the first turn first race/nor would I weld a cage in this body for CAMs approval/ridgity,
No fellas this is just a sprint/hill climb/club car for a bit of fun and to look good.
May be going for a dato/nissan of my own to wreck/race when this sells or a race ready MX5 havnt decided yet
Better post this in the for sale section hey.

                            Thanks boys

yeh but i like the body straight and all one shade of red, after a couple of race events with me driving it wouldnt be that way for long.If it doesnt sell it will remain as a track/sprint car only with a BP1800 turbo shoehorned in to it.
