    Fishing Spots In Sydney...

heya all just curious to know who goes fishing and wats a hot spot to try out.

i went to a boat shed spot in cronulla last nite n one of the boys caught this, its about 1 metre long. it weighed in around 2kilos or so.

couple of weeks ago in the same spot a guy before us caught 1x 79cm flathead and then 1x 65cm flathead, he had to throw the 79cm one away coz its a oversized breeding fish but he took the other one home.

so where do u think is a good spot to go??

Is that a shark or a sting ray??

Botany Bay is apparently good according to my work collegues..... I've yet to try it coz I don't have a boat but there are some nice places there. Normally I just go to the Hawkesbury but I haven't been there for over a year.

It looks like a Shovelnose Shark / Ray. I've caught bigger ones up around the 40kg mark. Go very hard

Have NFI about spots in NSW but i know WA's got better fishing :D

Edit: Ray / shark. Actually a proper ray but names change depending on location i guess!

Yeah thats a shovel nose ray. Some ppl call them sharks, some rays, technically they are rays. Its a very pregnant female too by the looks of it.

Seeing you are around Cronulla, fancy a trip to Kurnell to fish the rocks?

Turn left Sir Joseph Banks Drive, left again past the refinery, follow the dirt road to the end> Tabbagai(sp?) about 4km. You have to climb down through a hole in the cliff by a steel ladder about 50ft, then about another 40ft to the water. If the steel ladder has rusted away, further south there are a series of hand holds and ropes if you are keen. Watch it if the seas are up, personally seen 2 fishos washed in 20+ years ago.

Another spot in the general vicinity, follow Sir J B D to the end past the carbon black factory (more scenery) turn right, follow the dirt road to the end, about 2km. To the north of the sewerage discharge stink pipes is a large flattish rock, virtually surrounded by water, so another favorite with Vietnamese non-swimming fishos.

Don't even consider fishing the latter without cleats, probably OK with non slip footwear at the first spot.

lol, no reason really - I was going to say they taste like shit, but I've heard they actually cook up all right (of course, if you aren't going to eat it - it shouldn't need to be said - throw it back). Not many people consider eating them though.

I throw all my fish back (for various reasons) - so I'm biased.

Yeh, shovelnose are common, we always throw them back.

I only fish for the sake of fishing, and usually take plenty of alcohol to keep me entertained.

I went on a camping trip with the lads in Shoalwater Bay (QLD) after New Years, for the time, effort and $$$ we put in for that trip, we could have gone deep sea fishing several times, and probably would have caught more fish as we lucked out with the weather.

Next time I go fishing properly, it'll be on the back of someone elses boat, they can rig up my bait while I drink and catch monster snapper/tuna :D
