IIRC the original Spamboy had one...he had issues with the cost of parts but then again some may say he had issues full stop.

get one in good nick anf you can have a lot of fun, get one that's been mistreated and it'll be a money pit. They are imo amongst the pinacle of large front wheel drive cars in terms of handeling ability, and they have a decent amount of poke, and can be tuned for a bit more. Cal knows his stuff when it comes to Mi's and probably owns one of the nicest i've heard of going around speak to him as he lives in brisbane as well and may be able to help you out. Apart from that I guess a more detailed description is needed, how many km's has it done? i'd suggest one with more then 200k km's is starting to look in the direction of troubles. After all they were a sports car, and have been treated as such there entire life, not to mention since becoming affordable to the main strem public

Your mate spamboy is on another forum I frequent - doesn't like being called by his old name though.

          PS: Agree with issues comment.

If you watch Ronin, they apparently own e34 M5s.

Owned one. Loved it. Still in the family too. Parts can be dear, there can be issues but my lord are they a pleasure to drive. Had a series 1 with all the leather, sunroof etc. Brilliant from the highway to just putting around town. As mentioned Cal is the man on these.

I've had my series 1 for about 6 years and I've got no intention of selling it any time soon. With a few minor mods, they are one of the best handling 4 door sedan this side of an Evo 6. They have ok power, nothing special these days, but enough to exploit the handling. They are lighter than most people would think at around the 1100kg mark, so stop well with their fairly large brakes.

As others have said, buy the very best car you can find for sale. A well maintained one is a very reliable car. They are around, because they were pretty expensive when new and there are still examples around owned by the original owners. I would not worry too much about kms and be more concerned about condition. Parts really aren't too bad at all. Some weird things are expensive, but for the most part they are a hell of a lot cheaper than parts for the three Japaneses cars I've owned while I've had the Pug.

Mine has the luxury pack of leather, sunroof and ABS and has 230000kms on it and is going strong. That said, I rebuilt the motor at 160000kms (some dick got water in the inlet), put Koni yellows & Eibach springs on it at about 185000 and have just had the gearbox rebuild a few weeks ago.

Looks for a good service history where they have been replacing consumable parts. Don't worry too much about rebuilt bits etc but rather look for replaced water hoses for the radiator and stuff like that. The water hoses for an Mi16 was quoted as a 1,000 dollar service from a specialist mechanic when I was talking to them about getting an Mi16.

My friend has one, very nice car. I remember seeing reviews when they were new, they got pretty good write-ups. As has been said the handling is fantastic, sounds pretty nice too. His is a darkish blue, I think he's looking at selling it as he's getting a company car, theyre a lot cheaper than I'd have thought now too

Chipper, all I remember of your car is that there was only a couple of occassions that it wasn't sitting on a car float! :p

                          Hi All

First post here. Could not recommend an Mi16 in good nick enough for the money. Just dont do what i did and buy the first one you come accross. Make sure it feels really solid, the motor pulls cleanly and get it checked by a pug specialist.

As for the parts pricing i never found it to bad. I found this out after i had a cam belt tensioner fail, i had it going again doing all the labour between my old man and myself for about $800. Someone mentioned the coolant pipes and yes they are a pain in the arse, possibly not as much as the heater matrix which will go if you have one. I think i nearly brought in the explosives during that episode.

All said they are great handling car and dont go to bad either, and if you do need any spares I have one in my carport with a slightly knocked up front end that has to go to make way for the next french car.

                          Tim

Oh yeh and the fuel economy on mine was great, Sydney to the snow and back on a bit over half a tank sitting on about 120km/h mosts of the way.
                          I have stuff...
