    Evo1 Gearbox Rebuild

    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend me a good gearbox rebuilder for my evo1 gearbox. ( in brisbane)

Basically i just want the bearings and synchro's replaced (probably seals while its apart to) as its been going slowly down hill over the last year or so from just wear and tear - noisy and refusal to go into 5th without crunching unless i double clutch.

I replaced the fluid with redline shockproof lightweight about 6 months ago which made a dramatic improvement over the old cruddy castrol synthetic stuff, but alas i think its time to move on from the bandaid solution before something gets damaged.

The gearbox is an evo1 gear with a front viscous LSD. Im sure i will have to source the parts myself, as i dont think finding the bearings and synchro's will be all that easy. All i need is someone reliable to do the hard work for me as i lack the knowledge and the time at the moment to do it myself.

Im budgeting around 1000-1500 dollar mark so if anyone knows any reputable rebuilders that have experience with AWD gearboxes, please let me know!

    cheers
    ag

            send it down to melb
            to jeff at evosport..

might even work out cheaper to ship it down/ build and ship it back up!!

i had my box rebuilt and front lsd installed with a centre tre spool
            very very good price
            around the 700 dollar mark...

also a wq gearbox (close ratio like the evos)

Thanks again for the replies guys.

Nah postman, chris broke his box good an proper (smashed the front diff completely from memory)

It ended up being cheaper for him to buy an entire 1/2 cut and take the gearbox out of that and sell the rest of the parts!

I've got some manuals about (thanks to no1200).

Also I've got some bearing lists somewhere - a number of them are commonly available aftermarket, there were 2 or 3 from memory that were ex Japan.

The 5th gear problem is common in everything from vr4 to evo 3, there was a revised synchro, hub & gear, but it all comes to $500ish. I ended up getting a trashed vr4 box & pilfering the (good) 5th gear stuff off that.

Note that there was a change between evo 1 & 2, and the revised 5th gear kit has a different part number for 2-3 than for vr4 & evo 1.

                    Good luck!

                    Alex.
